Marriott Rejoining Woking
Thursday, 25th Sep 2014 11:32

Vanarama Conference Premier side Woking have announced that Town striker Jack Marriott is rejoining them on loan for a third spell.

The 20-year-old, who will be at the Kingfield Stadium until January 4th, ended a month with League Two Carlisle at the weekend and played for Town's U21s in the 4-1 defeat to Huddersfield on Monday.

Marriott, who failed to net in three starts and two sub appearances with the Cumbrians, had two highly successful spells with the Cards last season, scoring 13 goals in 23 starts and one sub appearance.

Manager Mick McCarthy told the club site: “They know him well from his time there last season. He will play games there and I’m sure he will score goals.

“It’s better for his development to be there where there is a lot more at stake over the 90 minutes than staying here and playing for our U21s.

“He had a month at Carlisle and wasn’t getting the time on the pitch he really needs at this stage of his career. He’ll get that at Woking.”

The former Kettering Town schoolboy made his first senior start for the Blues in the Capital One Cup last month, having made two sub appearances in the Championship.

this is all getting a bit hard for the lad! at this minute he doesn't know where he is going. really hope he gets a bit of play time for us, as i do hope he's not one of those who has a bit of potential but doesn't end up fulfilling it. i don't know how long the loan is, but lets hope it's a decent length for him to actually prove what he can do!

At this time he doesn't appear to be ready for leagues 1 or 2, let alone the Championship. That's two unsuccessful spells at that level now. What's the point of him being at Woking, everyone knows he can score at that level?

Will he be another Jordan Rhodes or will he be more of a billy Clarke or even dean bowditch? Either way I very much doubt he'll ever get a first team chance. Why can't we find a top conference or league 1 or 2 side to loan him to where he'll get more chances to finish?

rugbytomc - maybe it's because there are a lot of other manager out there who think the conference is about his level

I'm really surprised Colchester haven't taken a punt on him. Its widely reported that they are looking for a loan striker, and would think spending the season there, close to home, with some familiar faces might help him and their club

Really strange how he wasn't given a fair enough crack at Carlisle, considering they are yet to win a game in league 2, sadly his potential is slowly dropping, needs to re find his form at Woking.

if he's going to get anywhere I think he'll have to leave town and find a club that wants him

This isn't really a shock, any news about the Collision deal?

There is no reason to put him in our first team right now. He's not for whatever reasons done the business at Carlisle. If we were struggling and current strikers not playing well then it's worth giving him a go, but that's not case. He's better playing than sitting on the bench or playing U21's football. MM clearly hasn't got an issue with giving youngsters a chance, but only when he thinks they are ready.

He needs to play for a team that are going to create chances for him to score.

Peterborough or MK Dons would've been a good move.

I appreciate that some people think he should be starting for us, but to date he hasn't excelled at league 1 level. On the other hand, going back to a conference side is surely a backwards step.

Personally, I am worried that one of our strikers will get injured, as frankly I don't think Bajner is up to it at the moment, which leaves us short without other options from last year.

I think it is time for his agent to find him another club where he will play regularly hopefully at L2 or L1 level.

He might (50-50) come back to haunt us but these bits of loan here and there with, it would seem, very little thought as to whether it is a good loan for him or not is not helping Jack to develop or for that matter it must have a negative impact on his confidence.

Maybe it is in your own interests the time to seek permanent pastures new Jack.

I had high hopes for him but I think that's his level if i'm honest. He's more Ronan Murray than Connor Wickham.

He needs to score goals to boost his profile having failed at a couple of league teams. If he can do that until January with Woking and successfully, then perhaps a better league 1 or 2 team would be willing to take a gamble on him then.

It has been said before on this site(but not so far today) that it was just MM that was holding him back and that he was deserving of a place in a championship side.If that was the case you would have thought that one of the other 70 clubs at championship level and lower(excluding Carlisle who did take him)would have snapped him up on loan with maybe a view to permanent signing.Perhaps he is just not good enough? I know that he is only 20 but so far he has shown nothing at a level above Woking to suggest that he will make it.

Think he has found his level In the conference can't see him ever making the squad here

Well at least Woking are happy! at least he does get play time there and scores goals. Just hope he can come back at some point and be part of the 1st team but beginning to think he will end up like Billy Clarke and Dean Bowditch.

The writing is on the wall for him. He should be blazing a trail at lower league sides, but obviously not happening for him. Had high hopes a year or two ago, but can't see him making our first team now. he'll walk away at the end of his contract into a League 2 side if he's lucky.

I have said for a while now that he needs to be kicking on and worrying the first team, but it seems he just isn't at that level. I wish teh lad all teh luck in the world but its time to shape up or ship out.

As a side topic I'm not sure I understand the comparisons with Dean Bowditch who since leaving Town has been top goalscorer with Yeovil and MK Dons and is head and shoulders above anything Billy Clarke ever achieved.

He's scored 12 goals in his two spells there so far so it's good for him and good for Woking. Sadly, it's hard to see him getting into our first team (particularly since he struggled to get into the first teams at Gillingham and Carlisle). He didn't score for either of those 2 clubs either.

Have no idea when his contract is up but might be worth moving him on. Know Telford were scouting him at one point and he could do well there.

Another bad decision by MM. Releasing Lavery (who now can't stop scoring goals) and keeping Marriott.

PJH added 13:52 - Sep 25
Not sure where Lavery has been scoring goals because he has apparently been out injured all this season so far.

guentchev. We offered Lavery a contract and he turned it down... He left at the end of the 20111-2012 season. Lavery left the clubs months before MM was appointed and it wasn't because we relkeased him anyway.

lavery thought he bigger than the club and get top clubs after him sadly dont work that way for him

I THINK MICK IS DOING HIS BEST BUT UNLESS HE CAN UP HIS GAME SOON HE WILL BE ON HIS WAY OUT, WE ALL WOULD LOVE HIM TO BLOSSOM, AND BECOME A TOWN HERO BUT I DON'T THINK THIS WILL HAPPEN, HE MAY BE BETTER OFF ELSEWHERE TO DEVELOP, BOWDITCH IS SETTLED AT MKDONS AND DOING OK, AND THIS WHERE MARRIOTT IS GOING TO FINNISH IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN, GOOD LUCK LAD
