Parr Would Welcome Reunion With Williams
Friday, 26th Sep 2014 06:00

Jonny Parr has something in common with Town supporters, admitting he would love to see his friend and former-team Jonny Williams back at Portman Road.

Williams was a big hit when he joined on loan from Crystal Palace towards the end of last season, making 13 appearances and scoring once as he helped Mick McCarthy’s team to finish ninth, just four points adrift of the play-offs, in the Championship table.

McCarthy has said he would also be keen to see the diminutive Welsh international midfielder return for a second temporary stint, although new Eagles’ boss Neil Warnock holds the key to his possible availability having said he wants to take a look at him before deciding whether to send him out on loan.

Norwegian full-back Parr, who arrived on a free transfer after a three-year spell at Selhurst Park, said: “I have been speaking to him and if it was up to me we would get him here. I will absolutely try to push him in the right direction.

“But I’ve seen he has been playing a bit for Palace recently. He’s a great guy and a great footballer. I think he knows that he is more than welcome here if he wants to go on loan but I think that as long as he is in and around the Palace team it is good for him and he can push on to play for the first XI.

“It might be difficult to get him because you don’t know if there is a Premier League team that might want to take him on loan [in January], but I know he had a great time when he was here last season. He knows everyone here and he did well, but I think he is doing well at Crystal Palace and trying to get into the team there.”

Meanwhile, Parr, a striker early in his career, is impressed by the firepower Town have at their disposal as they attempt to build on their recent impressive run and cement a place among the promotion contenders.

He added: “Daryl Murphy has done really well this season but we have a lot of good strikers here, as many as four, and that is very good for the team. Daryl and Didzy have been doing really well, scoring goals and playing off each other.

“Conor [Sammon] came in for the last game at Wigan and he did really well and got a goal. We also have Balint [Bajner] as well so there is good competition for those places up front. You want to have as good a group as possible and I think our overall squad strength is very good.”

I'd absolutely love to see Williams back. If we played that formation like we did against Wigan with McGoldrick and Williams playing just behind Murphy then we'll have a pretty strong looking team. If we get the win against Rotherham then the table could look very nice indeed!

Although we are doing ok at present, think Williams would make a great contribution once more;bearing in mind that Bishop wont be able or allowed to play every game by Mick quite rightly.
