Town Confirm Williams Loan
Monday, 29th Sep 2014 09:44

Town have confirmed that Crystal Palace midfielder Jonny Williams has rejoined the Blues on a 93-day loan, as TWTD revealed on Saturday. The Wales international is at Playford Road this morning training with the squad ahead of the trip to South Yorkshire for Tuesday’s game at Sheffield Wednesday.

“I’m delighted to have him back in the squad,” manager Mick McCarthy said. “On the back of four wins, which is great for us, it’s great for us to be getting a player of his quality come in.

“I think one of his concerns when he was deciding where he was going to go - because he had a number of options, as you can imagine - was whether he would play because we’ve been playing well.”

McCarthy says Williams, who was interesting his former Eagles boss Dougie Freedman at Bolton in addition to other Championship clubs, is fit enough to be involved at Hillsborough: "He played against Newcastle [in the Capital One Cup] the other night and got 80 minutes, he's fine."

The Town boss was able to reassure the 20-year-old that he would get games while at Portman Road: “You tell them anything to get them in through the door!

“If you think we’re signing Jonny Williams, as good as he was the last time, and he’s going to be sat warming the bench during his loan spell, that’s not going to happen.

“Everybody saw him last year and it’ll give everybody a lift and a boost. On the back of the results to see him coming in, knowing what quality he is.”

Palace will be entitled to recall Williams at 24 hours' notice after the first 28 days of his loan at Portman Road, as is standard with these deals.

As is often the case when the Blues have two games in quick succession, Williams and the rest of the squad underwent cryotherapy in a portable facility parked in the Playford Road car park prior to training this morning.

This sees them enter a chamber at temperatures down to -130°C for around two minutes while wearing nothing other than shorts, protection against frostbite on their knees and elbows, gloves, goggles and a hat.

The process removes lactic acid and prevents muscle damage, thereby aiding recovery.

Quite canny from MM. We have a tough run of fixtures to come, especially away. A bit of extra quality to hopefully keep us in the mix until Christmas. COYB.

This is the strongest squad we have had for a long long time now. Very optimistic about tomorrow night and the rest of the season. Don't think Mick will through him straight in though. Hopefully come on when we're already 3 0 up, and then add a few more himself.

I don't think he was around before mcgoldrick got injured do I'll be super excited to see how they get on. Say he'll play in behind the front two with sammon dropping to the bench. Diamond formation in the middle of the park. Uber excited

I take my hat off to all the fans that believed this could happen!
I for one, felt he would stay at Palace. Now after so long without much midfield flair we now have it in abundance. There will not be any teams looking forward to facing us now and it has been too long since I felt that!
Regarding Bishop it can only do him good to be around such a good player as JW and as others have said to see TB, DMc and JW is the same team will be fun to watch.

Good move for Williams, he does not want to warm a bench he wants to play, and at his age if he is to progress to top 6 Premier League that is exactly what he needs to be doing, learning his trade and playing. Ditto Tyrone Mings.

Our Midfield options are huge. Just through the middle

Williams
Tabb
Hyam
Skuse
Bru
Collinson
Ambrose
Bishop

And wide midfield
Stewart
Ambrose
Henshall
Hunt
Tabb
Anderson
Hewitt

Potentially Murphy can play wide left as well.

Really like the look of our squad now! Strong in all areas, I seriously believe we can challenge up the top if everyone stays fit.
2 good signings in about 2 weeks in Collison and Now Jonny Williams to add to our already good squad. MM has pulled a great one out to get him back and with Didz and Joniesta playing in the same team.....wow!

Waheeey! You couldn't pass up on the chance to get his creative quality into the team, so well done MM and his back-up team. I reckon he'll start on the bench against Wednesday and come on sometime during the match - sooner rather than later, hopefully. Or just for fun we could field a team comprising solely midfielders from the start.

Great news. A quality player who has already shown us that he has a good attitude, he will be quite an asset. Defensively we are very strong & now we definitely have the options in midfield to complete with the better sides in the Championship. Well done to Mick & Marcus Evans for getting thsin deal done.

I am conscious of the fact that Williams, Collison & Ambrose are all here on short term deals, but I'm sure that can be looked at come Christmas if we are still top 6 contenders -which I am more positive about now than I was 2 months ago.

We are probably short a striker, in terms of having a full squad. Bajner has not impressed and Sammon is not a real 'goal-getter'. An injury to McGoldrick or Murphy would leave us exposed. Mick will probably play Joniesta in an advanced role almost as a 3rd forward behind McGoldrick & Murphy, or possibly with just one up front and JW behind for tougher, more cautious away games, but even still I would like to see another striker in. We have the space with Nouble & Marriott both gone.

We are in with a real chance of finishing in the top 6 this season. GET IN.

Crazy how good our squad is starting to look with quite easily one of the best back four's in the league, people talking about McGoldrick and Murphy being a very good partnership and now we've got seemingly endless options in midfield which as yet hasn't involved Stewart who was an exciting signing for most of us in the summer. Don't want to get too carried away but it's hard not to after almost 10years of mid table, surely we've got a real chance now?!
