Murphy Out of Ireland Trip
Monday, 13th Oct 2014 19:22

Town striker Daryl Murphy has been forced out of the Republic of Ireland’s Euro 2016 qualifier in Germany on Tuesday due to the achilles injury he suffered in Saturday’s 7-0 victory over Gibraltar.

Murphy, who won his 13th full cap as a sub against the Gibraltarians, wasn’t on the flight to Gelsenkirchen earlier today and is returning to Town. The injury isn't believed to be serious.

Yesterday, loanee Jonny Williams was ruled out of the Wales squad for tonight's game against Cyprus.

Manager Mick McCarthy told the club site: “Murph has a sore achilles and Jonny got kicked from pillar to post.

“He has a sore ankle and a sore calf and we will know how bad he and Murph are when we see them tomorrow. Fingers crossed, they are not too bad.”

Christophe Berra is now the only Town player currently away on international duty with Scotland facing Poland - who beat World Cup holders Germany 2-0 on Saturday - in Warsaw on Tuesday.

International football is so dull and boring IMHO , it ruins continuity in the leagues, and more often than not players get injured in meaningless games. It's the clubs that suffer not the countries.

totally agree airliner, also in the 80,s they had no international break, as all internationals was on a wed evening.

Probably good news for us, altho' disappointing for Murphy on a personal level. If it's "just" a sore achilles, hopefully he'll be back for the weekend, and he won't have risked further injury in the meantime.

Great news that it isn't serious and that he is back with the club. Thankful that the Irish didn't risk him.
