Chambers: We Can Make Top Two
Friday, 17th Oct 2014 06:00

Luke Chambers believes Town are capable of clinching an automatic promotion place — if they can continue the recent form that has seen them extend their unbeaten run to seven games.

Not one to get carried away, he is keeping his feet firmly planted on the floor, but from initially targeting a play-off place he and his colleagues are now setting their sights a tad higher.

Chambers said: “From day one we were just taking it a game at a time but as things stand now, if we can continue this form there’s no reason why we can’t be up in the top two.

“But the league is so competitive now that you can just as easily win or lose three in a row. We just have to keep our heads and the gaffer has been tremendous at that — win, lose or draw he is always the same with us.

“The boys have bounced back no what matter what has happened and this is a week we’re looking forward to because we have two out of the three games at home. We’ll be going for maximum points as always and teams will be coming down here knowing they need to up their game against us.”

First in line are Blackburn, who visit Portman Road tomorrow, and after then long trek for Tuesday’s clash at Cardiff on Tuesday there is another home game to come when Huddersfield are the opponents on Saturday week.

Town are eager for action after the international break, only a goal deep into stoppage time denying them a win at unbeaten Nottingham Forest last time out, while Mick McCarthy and Tyrone Mings have been awarded the Manager and Player of the Month accolades on the back of that impressive unbeaten sequence.

Chambers added: “Maybe the break was a good thing. We’ve got to look at it as a positive. We put in a great shift in September and we’re unbeaten in seven, which is a good return, and the gaffer has obviously got his reward, as has Tyrone.

“The boys are raring to go for Saturday, having not had a game last week, and we’re all prepared.

“To be honest it felt like a loss at Forest. It was especially disappointing for me because it would have been lovely to have gone up there to my former club and won.

“We showed how far we have come and we just have to continue producing the consistent performances that we have turned in over the last few weeks.

“We had a slow start to the season but it shows that if you can produce several good results in a row you can fly straight up the table.”

I believe we have every right to think we can make the top 2 with the form we are in at the moment, but every team has a bad patch and that always determine the teams season. Cause some teams can come back from it and some teams can't, I'm hoping and I believe we can!

Great players, great management, great support!!

It's good to hear from all the players but especially the captain, and I've gotta say chambo is the best captain we have had since de vos easy. Okay De Vos was more of a leader on the pitch but when it comes to passion for the shirt and how much he gets himself up for games no one comes close, he celebrates every win just like any of us fans would, and sitting in the north stand lower even his routine before the start of the game gets you fired up, you can see just how much he wants it which is why we all love him so much!! Captain fantastic

Dare we dream again?
How amazing would it be to get automatic promotion?
But I'd be more than happy with Top 6.

Keep it simple. All we need to do is win all the remaining games and we'll be promoted... and win the FA Cup.

Based on current form top 2 is possible, but it is very tight at the top, just 4 points separating the top 10.

Let's not get carried away here. When the inevitable bad run comes, the hawks will be out again. But we can hope to be up there somewhere fighting at the end of the season.

I' think it Is the year to do it if we are going to do it, with Fulham, Wigan and Cardiff struggling, albeit they will probably pick up, there are only 7 teams in my eyes fighting for it, we have a great in depth squad, and a manager who has had 3 years that the players believe in. People are raving about mings, mcgoldrick, Murphy, Williams and Berra! When was the last time we had 5 players of that quality in one team :) let's go for it and see what happens

Didn't Chopra come out with something similar 2 years ago after a win at Watford? Mick has the tactics to cover the threat and challenge offered by opposition, plus now this is entirely his team. The team spirit looks good. We should be dissappointed not to be top 6 come May.

One step at a time, a long long season still ahead and there will be many twists and turns. If we pick up a few injuries in key positions then I don't think we have the strength in dept for a top 2 position. You can also guarantee there will 2 or 3 other clubs that will put in good runs, just hope we haven't put ours in too early.

Great to hear the positive noises from Chambo. A real leader. Berra tweeted something similar, so the team appear buoyant. Really good display at Forest and we were unlucky. The championship is a really long slog and many fixtures bunched together, so momentum becomes really important. I'm cautiously optimistic.
