Murphy to Miss Out But Boss Hopeful Williams Will Be OK
Friday, 17th Oct 2014 14:13

Six-goal top scorer Daryl Murphy is set to miss Saturday’s home game against Blackburn Rovers but manager Mick McCarthy hopes Jonny Williams will be fit enough to be involved. However, midfielders Teddy Bishop and Luke Hyam are both sidelined.

Murphy picked up an achilles problem while away with the Republic of Ireland and although it is improving McCarthy says he’ll not be ready for Saturday. Williams suffered an ankle injury while with Wales.

“Murph’s struggling,” the Town boss said. “I’m hoping Jonny will be OK, I’ll leave it until tomorrow. He did a bit today and we’re just hoping there’s no reaction from it.”

McCarthy hopes Murphy will be fit for Tuesday’s game at Cardiff: “I’m very hopeful, he’s made a big improvement from when he came back. There’s no chance I’m going to risk him.

“It’s an achilles injury and if you start getting a niggle in the achilles that can go on for weeks and it takes some getting shot of.

“It’s the first injury, we’ll settle it down, make sure it’s fine and he’ll play when it’s ready, hopefully that’s Tuesday.”

As for Bishop and Hyam, he added: “Teddy Bishop’s been poorly all week, as he tweeted and he’s been tweeted from me for doing it!

“Luke Hyam’s still unavailable [with the hip flexor injury which forced him off at Nottingham Forest], but Christophe Berra’s come back [from international duty with Scotland] and he’s OK.”

Thought the MOTM curse struck the manager, not our leading scorer. Hopefully Murphy will be fit in time for the away trip to Cardiff.

With the injuries I'd imagine we'll go 4-4-2 with Anderson, Bru, Skuse and Tabb in midfield with Jonny (if he's fit) just behind McGoldrick? Are Collison and Ambrose fully fit now?

I think Murphy & Hyam are big misses for us. Murph in the form of his life, and Hyam the best defensive midfielder at the club. Fortunately we do have decent replacements within the squad, but it does weaken us a little. Still optimistic for 3 points though.

Sammon and Dids up top, Joniesta behind, midfield three of Tabb, Skuse, Ando. Picks itself really.

Murphy will be a big miss but should be a chance for Sammon to win over a few of his doubters(I thought he played very well at Forest).Would think at least 2 of Ambrose Hunt Stewart and Collison will be in 18,especially if Williams does not make it.

I would like us to stick with the 4-2-1-3 and play Bru with Skuse, Williams as the '1', then Anderson on the right, Didz and Sammon switching between the left and central roles depending who is getting the most change out of their CB and RB.

Spot on. I'd rather do without him for one game then have him fit, rather than throw him in before he's ready and lose him for a month.

Still think we are light up front. If McGoldrick and Murphy are both fit, no issue. But if one of them are Unavailable we have only Sammon who missed an open goal against Rotherham and Bajner who is yet to demonstrate he is a Championship player. Think we need better back up.

Maybe a chance for Ambrose or Collison to get some game time off the bench?
