Williams Enjoying Being Back at Town Tuesday, 21st Oct 2014 06:00 Loanee Jonny Williams admits he is so at home with Town that he feels as if he has hardly been away. The Welsh international returned to Portman Road recently and has scored once in four games to add to the goal he scored in 13 appearances on loan from Crystal Palace last season. Williams, 21, said: “It feels as if I haven’t been away to be honest because it wasn’t that long ago that I was here the first time. “I had a long summer and I didn’t play that many games in between my spells here. I’m delighted to be back and I’m really enjoying it.” The diminutive midfielder has yet to appear on a losing side during his current loan stint which is due to end in January, although he is not ruling out the possibility of it being extended beyond that date. He added: “We’ll have to see in January what the Palace manager wants to do with me but it would be great if we are still in and around the top six at that stage and able to push on and have a similar finish to last season, only be a bit higher up the table. “At the moment Neil Warnock just wants me to play in a central position and to play as many games as I can to make sure I keep my level of fitness up. “The main thing is to play games in that central position, whilst they hopefully do well in the Premier League. It’s pretty much the same as last season when I was here and hopefully it will happen again. “There were rumours about other clubs being interested in taking me on loan but deep down I knew where I wanted to go. Not that I had much choice, anyway, because it was the club’s choice. But it has worked out well for me and I’m delighted to be back. “I’ve only got positive things to say about the club and my time here last season. It’s one of the reasons I’m happy to be back. “The manager has been fantastic with me and there’s a really good strong bond within the team at the moment — as you can probably see on the pitch. The fans have also been fantastic since I’ve come back and they were great last year as well, so it’s been good.” Meanwhile, Williams would not say no to more protection from officials after an ankle injury sustained on international duty with Wales almost kept him out of Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Blackburn. He said: “It’s just part of the game, something I have to deal with and get on with. At times I think cautions could be given out a bit more but it’s not down to me to say. Referees and linesmen do their jobs.” When it was suggested that being singled out for special treatment by opponents, who pinpointed him as an obvious threat, could be taken as a compliment the softly-spoken Williams added: “Yes, but it’s not nice though.” The good news for Town is that Williams has recovered from his ankle problem and he took time out to praise the club’s medical staff. “It has settled down really quickly. The physio’s really good here and was able to fix me in time for the game. I haven’t missed any yet so hopefully that will carry on,” he said.
