Williams Delighted to Finally Link Up With McGoldrick
Tuesday, 21st Oct 2014 06:00

Town loanee Jonny Williams says being able to link up with striker David McGoldrick is a bonus after they missed the chance last season.

McGoldrick was already a long-term absentee when Williams arrived on loan from Crystal Palace in March and their paths did not cross until the Welsh midfielder’s recent return to Portman Road until January.

Asked what it was like to be lining up alongside McGoldrick in Town’s last four games Williams said: “He’s a great player. I didn’t manage to play or even train with him last season so that was a shame but I’m delighted to be back and I have a good relationship with him.

“Hopefully it will keep on improving as we play more with each other. He’s a real technical player and it’s the same with Murph.

“They are both great players and it makes us so strong up front. It is good to be linking up with players like that.

“I think we’re slightly more attacking, the way we’ve been playing this season. We’ve got more striker options available and we’ve got some real strength and quality up top, so we’ve got to use that.

“Having Conor, Didzy and Murph to play off is a real bonus for me so I’m enjoying it.

“At the moment it doesn’t really matter whether we are playing home or away, we still go out to attack teams and I think that’s the best way to go about it.

“I think we’ve been unlucky not to pick up more points on the road this season but we’ll go to Cardiff with the same game plan we have used in the last few weeks and hopefully put in a performance.”

Town will be looking to stretch their unbeaten run to nine games in the Welsh capital but having inflicted Nottingham Forest’s first defeat of the season in new manager Russell Slade’s first game in charge on Saturday the Bluebirds will not be lacking in confidence.

Williams added: “It will be a tough game. They beat Forest on the TV on Saturday so they have shown they are a top team.

“They will be there or thereabouts, I think. They have only just come down from the Premier League so they have Prem quality in the team.

“It feels as if I’ve been living there for the past two weeks during the international break.

“We trained there and played our games there so it will probably feel like a home ground in a way after being there so much recently. It will be nice to be back.

“They’ve got an extra tier on the stadium and it’s a nice ground and a nice pitch. Hopefully we can go down there and take the three points.

“I don’t have any Cardiff fans in the family and no Swansea fans either. It would be nice to go back there and hopefully we can put a performance in for all the fans who will travel all that way.”
