McCarthy Hopeful on Williams But Parr a Doubt and Bru Out
Thursday, 30th Oct 2014 14:45

Town boss Mick McCarthy hopes to have Jonny Williams in his squad for Saturday’s game at Blackpool and Tyrone Mings is back after his one-match ban, but Kevin Bru has been ruled out of the trip to Bloomfield Road and Jonny Parr is a doubt.

Bru and Williams missed the home game with Huddersfield having knocks - and in the Mauritian international’s case a groin problem - but McCarthy says the loanee from Crystal Palace is back in training.

“He trained yesterday and he’s just done some strength work today and I’m hoping that he’ll be available,” he said. “He’ll train tomorrow and I’ll see.

“Tyrone’s back in but Kevin Bru’s injured. Jonny Parr’s been having treatment all week, he’s just got a bit of a niggle with his groin, so likewise I’ll wait and see about him tomorrow and that’s it I think. That’s the sick, lame and lazy for this week!”

He says Bru could be OK for the back to back home matches next week: “Kevin has got a chance for the Wolves and Watford games but not for Saturday. It would be nice to have everybody fit with these three games coming up.”

Meanwhile, Blackpool have confirmed the appointment of ex-Birmingham boss Lee Clark as their manager.

Not good if Parr is missing because we would again only have one proper fullback. With most away games I go hoping for a win but mostly happy with a draw(Derby and Forest in particular)but anything less than a win at Blackpool would be a disappointment. It will be slightly harder with them having a new manager but hope for a comfortable win without the nervy last 5 minutes/injury time.

Ah well could always play Skuse at right back as he did at Blackpool last season. Won't happen of course but Chambo at right back was a disaster last week. How about we go for 3-5-2 with Chambers Smith and Berra at the back Anderson wide right Mings wide left Hyam, Skuse and Williams in the middle and McGoldrick and Murphy up front. Won't happen but just a thought. Lets have some pace on the bench with Henshall and Stewart being considered. See you on the prom.

Starting to pick up niggling injuries quite regularly now particularly at the back, hope he doesn't keep Chambers in that position (right back) - ideally Hewitt should come into that position if Parr is injured but he's out on loan. How about Skuse playing in that position as he played there for Bristol City and then we wouldn't have to worry about 2 players (him and Hyam playing similarly in the holding position in midfield).

Really does demonstrate that we lack depth in this squad. Five senior defenders is not enough to last an entire season and sustain a promotion challenge. I hope we don't pick up injuries up front, as options equally as disappointing.

Put Anderson at right back. He was signed as a winger - but he isn't.
