McCarthy Delighted His Players Are the Talk of the Town
Wednesday, 12th Nov 2014 06:00

Boss Mick McCarthy is delighted that his own players Tyrone Mings, David McGoldrick, Teddy Bishop and Daryl Murphy are currently the talk of the Town rather than just Premier League loanee Jonny Williams.

Left-back Mings continues to be linked with a host of Premier League sides, most notably Arsenal, after his impressive start to the season, while Murphy is joint-top scorer in the Championship on 10 goals and has this week been joined in the Irish squad by strike partner David McGoldrick.

Bishop, 18, is the latest academy product to break into the first team and is impressing top flight scouts in addition to Portman Road regulars.

Responding to praise for Mings’s performances, McCarthy said: “Isn’t it nice to have one that we’re talking about like that?

“Isn’t it nice that we’ve got David McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy that they’re talking about?

“And isn’t it nice that we’ve got Teddy Bishop that people are talking about? That’s what I like about a team, when you’ve got a number of them where people are saying ‘Wow, there’s a good player for you’.

“All right, Jonny Williams isn’t ours. Isn’t it nice that it’s not Jonny Williams that’s getting spoken about now, it’s Tyrone Mings, Teddy Bishop, it’s the two centre forwards.

“As much as I love Jonny Williams, he’s not going to be my player and is probably never, ever going to be my player, so it’s nice that it’s our players that are being spoken about. But when he plays I hope they’re all talking about him when he gets the goals!”

Good point, pennblue. Be nice to Berra on Tv against England. We actually have a team worth talking about these days and what a star Bru is as well. COYB

MM and TC have done a great job in getting rid of troublesome players and 'bringing on' the ones who grace our current team. The team spirit has not been stronger for years. Now we must be the side that other Premiership clubs would LEAST like to play against! We have almost every position covered, but with the jury still out on the goalkeeping spot. Maybe one of the two will improve sufficiently? It's not about their ability to save shots, more about commanding their area.

Next we need to make the atmosphere created by the fans, the thing people talk about in a good way.

And so they should be, fully deserved, what a great season we could have when you could name 6 or 7 players who are catching peoples eyes, great to see we've tightened up at the back and seeing out these victories, great management and great team spirit, let's hope it's our season

in my opinion i feel that a midfield 3 of HYAM - BRU - BISHOP. are more than a match for most midfields in the championship. and what makes it better is that bru is the oldest out of the 3 at the ripe old age of just 25 so that will be a solid base for our team for years to come. With what is already IMO the best defence in the league, and one of the best strike partnerships, we have a team where every single player could be singled out for praise and no one would disagree (can only be seen as a good thing). I feel that Mick and Terry are the ones that need to be more recognised for what they have done for this club. They are IMO, on there way to becoming Ipswich Legends. CYOB

Lets hope all the speculation is kept to just talking we have patiently waited a few years to have a team of players giving us football to cheer about so those Sky cash strapped clubs can keep their sticky fingers in their bulging wallets. Saying that hopefully we are heading that way!! (oh what a blue Heaven that will be)

Most of the chat has been about Conor Sammon, actually. Most of the entertaining chat, that is.
