Town programme collectors packed the auction room at Lockdales of Martlesham over the weekend to spend more than £5,000.

Nearly 80 programmes from the 1930s, 40s and 50s were up for grabs and the majority went for well over £100.

Auction manager James Sadler, a Portman Road season ticket holder, said: "It was a spectacular sale. Nearly everything was sold. It was brilliant that so many genuine Town fans got what they wanted.”

Other clubs’ programmes were also on sale and 30 from Exeter City dating from the 1930s and 40s were sold for a total of £1,900.

I went to this - the first auction I have ever been to. It was fascinating - some lots went for more than 10x guide price, and clearly there are some very serious collectors of Town programmes, prepared to pay £100+ for a single item. Amazing a Spurs single-sheet prog went for £520...
I was pleased I managed to bag some clearly unfashionable and unwanted Town progs from the 1950s for a very modest sum...
