Thijssen New Brisbane Boss
Thijssen New Brisbane Boss
Monday, 24th Nov 2014 10:06

Blues legend Frans Thijssen has been named the new boss of Australian A-League side the Brisbane Roar.

Thijssen, 62, takes over as interim head coach for the rest of the season, taking over from Mike Mulvey, who was sacked after the Roar lost five of their first six games.

Former Dutch international midfielder Thijssen has previously managed Vitesse, De Graafschap and Fortuna Sittard in Holland and Malmo in Sweden, but in recent years has been a youth coach with the likes of FC Twente and latterly in Qatar.

I think that MM is doing a fantastic job for us and be gutted if he was to leave. But why didn't we look at him previously instead of the other muppets we've had at our great club...

There was actually talk of him coming here to join the academy staff a year or so ago, he was very keen to return and spoke to Bryan Klug but ultimately it didn't come to anything.

Massive Blues legend, but I have to say that in Malmö as a manager, he was unfortunately a complete flop. That doesn't change MY opinion of him as an all-time great, but here he is not remembered with affection by anyone who has no ITFC connections.

Will have to dig out my old 80's town shirt for the next Roar game.
As Roar have lost 5 out of last 6 games he has a hell of a job on his hands, I think he needs to regrow the tash' for Mo-vember

Marcus Evans Group are doing a conference at the Pulman hotel in Brisbane this week
maybe some kind of connection?

OMG what a player Franz was for us! Part of probably Europes best midfield and one of its top , top teams. Nicknamed "hookfoot" no-one could get the ball off him! Give Mick time and he'll continue to rebuild us if not to greatness then into a Prem mid table club. UTT!

I met Franz a few years back in Abu Dhabi and spent a lot of time with him reminiscing those glory years with him. One of the nicest people I have ever met. He also gave me some of his photo's from the '81 team that met up for the 30th anniversary of their UEFA cup victory.

Samassi if you had ever seen him play then you would know he was a key part of one of the best ITFC teams we've ever had so definitely deserving of respect and a write up!!!!

The reality of Thijssen passing some of his silky skills onto some of our Academy youngsters - would be most welcome.
