Strong U21s Side in Cup Action Against Saints
Monday, 24th Nov 2014 13:13

Alex Henshall, Cameron Stewart, Balint Bajner and an unnamed trialist are set to feature in what’s expected to be a strong Town development side facing Southampton in the U21 Premier Cup at Portman Road this evening (KO 7pm).

The trialist may be Hampton and Richmond left-back George Wells, who has featured in a couple of previous U21 games - including Town’s previous U21 Premier Cup tie - and was invited to spend two weeks training with the Blues.

The round of 32 tie must be decided on the night with extra-time played if the scores are level after 90 minutes and a penalty shoot-out following if required.

Entry is free to season ticket holders with tickets otherwise available on the Cobbold Stand turnstiles at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.

Mark Kennedy’s side beat Swansea City 2-1 at home in the previous round with Darren McQueen netting the first and Swans’ defender Curtis Obeng scoring a final minute own goal.

the youth of today will be unaware of the grim 80s psychobilly scene

Looking forward to seeing one or two of Towns 'forgotten men'
In recent years Southampton I feel have been the most successful for producing young players ie Gareth Bale,Adam Lallana, the two Arsenal widemen,Walcott & ?etc, not forgetting of course our own David McGoldrick.

Seasider the other winger you're talking about is Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Southampton's youth system is phenomenal and I'll be very happy if we beat them, even if it goes to penalties!

In fairness Lallana came from Bournemouth so wasn't "created" by the Southampton youth academy, just bought in...

But who is the unknown trialist? I love a bit of intrigue. COYB!

Just goes to show what can be achieved with sticking to the same-ish team week in week out.

The fact that we are where we are without the likes of summer signings Henshall,Stewart & Bajner not having played much is a credit to what Mick & TC can get out of a small group of players.
