Blues in Hunt For Leeds Striker
Wednesday, 26th Nov 2014 14:53

Town are reported to have made a move to sign Leeds United striker or wideman Noel Hunt on loan. In September, TWTD revealed that manager Mick McCarthy had shown interest in the 31-year-old - Blues winger Stephen Hunt’s younger brother - in the summer.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post the Blues have made an approach to sign the Ireland international ahead of Thursday’s 5pm emergency loan deadline.

Hunt junior started his career in Ireland with Shamrock Rovers and with hometown club Waterford United, where he had a spell on loan, before moving on to Scotland where he played for Dunfermline and Dundee United.

Capped three times by Ireland, Hunt joined Reading in July 2008, before following his former Royals’ boss Brian McDermott to Elland Road in the summer of 2013.

Hunt, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has made only one start and one sub appearance so far this season, both in the opening week of the campaign.

Overall, he has made 14 starts and eight sub appearances for the Whites without scoring having missed much of last season, due to injury.

Meanwhile, Darren Bent has completed his move from Aston Villa to Brighton on an initial one-month loan.

Lets write the guy off before he's even walked through the door!! Great stuff! If mick thinks he's good enough then at least give the guy a chance

Jesus. Don't fancy this at all but I'll give him the chance he deserves. No better than anyone we already have in my opinion.

Why can't we ever sign a bloody goal scorer, Brighton get Darren bent who will tear it up at championship level and we get Noel hunt who is injury prone and when he is fit he just doesn't score, we've already got sammon for that, congratulations to Brighton, good work by them, Heads gone by us!!

Everyone is so negative! From what I've seen of Noel he puts himself about and he's got bags of energy. He may not score lots of goals but it's not like we've got a problem in that department!

Mick is building a typical championship challenging team we've seen in recent years and results are showing he's doing a great job - can I remind you all that we are fourth!

Get behind Hunty, behind Mick and the boys and never judge a player on past performances under different managers. COYB.

Some people are raving on about Darren Bent, and yes he is a good player, but look at the amount of loan players at Brighton, a lot of whom are playing first team football:

Ali Al-Habsi
João Carlos Teixeira
Gary Gardner
Joe Bennett
Elliott Bennett
Greg Halford
Darren Bent

Does anyone remember the last time we had such a team full of loanees? Was that a happy, cohesive period?

Mick is signing loan players but very much for backup purposes, and it seems unlikely N. Hunt would get much playing time under the current setup, but as mentioned above he has tonnes of experience for this level to steady the ship. There is no urgency to sign big name players on loan when Murphy+McGoldrick are banging them in as it is.

Give the bloke a chance. Micks no mug. Think how excited we were when Chopra and Taylor were bought for decent transfer fees!
