Bru and Berra Miss Charlton Trip
Thursday, 27th Nov 2014 14:20

Midfielder Kevin Bru has been ruled out of Saturday’s game at Charlton and the home match against Leeds United the following week. Central defender Christophe Berra is suspended for the game at the Valley, but better news is that Stephen Hunt is fit after a hamstring problem and manager Mick McCarthy is “confident” that left-back Tyrone Mings will also be OK.

Bru limped off with a turned ankle at Bournemouth on Saturday and McCarthy confirmed that the Mauritian international will be unavailable at the Valley.

“He’s not ready for Saturday and he probably won’t be ready for next Saturday,” he said. “It’s going to be a couple of weeks, probably three weeks before he plays. Sad but he won’t be involved.

“Hunty’s all right, he’s trained today. Tyrone hasn’t trained but I’m hopeful he’ll be out tomorrow. He’s got a dead leg and he’s got a bit of a tight glute. Hopefully he’ll be OK, he’s expected to train tomorrow, fingers crossed for that.”

The Town boss says Matt Clarke will start if Mings fails to make it with new short-term signing Sean St Ledger unlikely to be involved as he is down to play for the U21s at Millwall on Friday as he works on his fitness. Fellow new addition Noel Hunt will be in the squad.

Central defender Berra is suspended for one match having reached five bookings at Bournemouth.

Also sidelined at the moment is Cameron Stewart, who suffered an injury in the U21 match against Southampton.

“Poor old Cammy can’t get fit,” McCarthy added. “He’s brightened up in the last few U21 games and played well. I thought he did well on Monday night and limped off with a hamstring strain.”

McCarthy says short-term signing Jack Collison remains out of action with a knee injury: "We’re just taking care of him, I’m not going to predict what he’s going to be doing, we’ll just make sure he’s fit.”

Meanwhile, Charlton will again be without former Blues loan keeper Stephen Henderson due to a shoulder injury. One-time Town academy schoolboy - and boyhood Portman Road season ticket holder - Nick Pope will deputise.

Pleased to see that Matt Clarke has already been promised the start if Mings doesn't make it.

Mick McCarthy knows everything there is to know about defenders as of course he was one himself. I am not at all convinced though that he shares the same aptitude when it comes to strikers. Balint Bajner, Conor |Sammon and now Noel Hunt seems to confirm this.

I hope I am wrong on all three but track records and logic suggest otherwise.

Sammon does an important job, when he plays chasing and harrying defenders, making life difficult as possible. Also Making space for Murphs and Didz to do the damage. I think Sammon has proved to be a decent addition to the squad.
Bajner has potential and was low risk- need to give him a chance to adapt. Will be next season before we can really judge him.
Hunt hasnt played yet!

Dont forget these guys are back up to the main men!

Not sure about your logic, Pessimistic.

Pessimistic, you may be right. After all, Didz and Murph are not playing far and away the best football of their careers under his stewardship. And here we are in the play off places having spent exactly £0 in striker transfer fees. What is your preferred solution?

I think Sammon is highly undervalued. He gave the Wigan back line an absolute nightmare. He harasses, chases and puts other teams under pressure. He is not and probably never will be a prolific goalscorer but a valuable addition nonetheless.

I rate Sammon, not as a typical 20plus a season striker but a work horse and an unsung type that does a lot of the spadework without alot of the plaudits. Alot can be achieved by a team with a combined hard work ethic, as opposed to a couple of would be superstars.

It's great people who appreciate a guy who runs his guts out to give the others a chance to grab the glory. Sammon and his like are invaluable a hard grafter who isn't, a prima doña, grow up guys, a team is made of individuals who collectively form a group of winners who don't hide they scrap for each other, unlike some of us your a bunch of whingers, thank goodness most can see the grass from the s--t

Interesting comments about Connor I think some on this forum may have said the same thing about Murphy great workhorse doesn't score enough goals now he is on fire and doing both. TC is as far as I can tell a great coach and works with the forwards all the time I think MM would be looking to him for advice on these positions.

Loving the season so far first time in years I cant wait for the next game. CYOB

Eatonblue - very funny :)
