St Ledger Out to Win Extended Stay
Thursday, 27th Nov 2014 15:54

New short-term signing Sean St Ledger says he’s aiming to win a longer stay at Portman Road having put pen to paper on a one-month deal this morning. The 29-year-old was a free agent having left Leicester at the end of last season.

“I’m thankful to the manager for giving me a chance,” the Irish international told Ipswich Player.

“I’ve been out of football for quite a while and I’m pretty lucky to join a club that is fourth in the table and have aspirations of getting in the Premier League.

“I’ve been close to coming here before. I spoke to the manager last year about joining but I was in the Leicester team at the time so things didn’t materialise and I would have joined the club when Paul Jewell was manager but one of the players got injured at Leicester so they wouldn’t let me go.

“It’s great to finally be here and I’m relishing the opportunity. I know I have a lot of work to do but I’ve got to try and force my way into the team and show the manager what I can do.

“I’m here for a month at the moment but hopefully I can extend that contract until the end of the season and maybe beyond that. I’m up for that challenge.”

St Ledger played for the U21s in Monday's 1-0 defeat to Southampton and will play for Mark Kennedy's side again at Millwall on Friday.

At the end of the day we are hardly going to lose anything with him and Hunt being here. It he is playing on Friday that rules him out of the squad for Saturday.

If he regains old form then we have 4 quality CB. When was the last time we were in such good shape?

he is pretty comfortable at RB too if required.
Great quality player with plenty left in the tank, the great thing with Ledge and Noel is that they will will fresh as dasies and chomping at the bit for a contract.

They could really push the squad on and keep every one on their toes, definitely no room for complacency. Its absolutely great knowing we have a capable squad where we can interchange faces to keep squad fresh.

Lets hope this works out for all parties. Sometimes it will and sometimes it wont. Its cost us next to nothing and wouldn't it be typical of big Mick to find a gem for small change.

I'm pretty pleased with this signing, I just hope he's in decent match fitness. If he can regain old form then he can be a quality signing. He's still only 29 which is pretty much the peak age for a defender I'd say. Reminds me a bit of Richard Stearman, who I think will be a natural CB but probably more comfortable at RB than Chambo.

...... quite enthusiastic about this - just hope he is up to proving himself, as the potential to be a huge asset to us is very much there.
