McCarthy: Town Not Sneaking Under Radar
Monday, 1st Dec 2014 10:00

Town boss Mick McCarthy has dismissed the suggestion that the Blues have joined the Championship promotion push largely unnoticed. Saturday’s 1-0 win at Charlton saw Town climb to second in the table just a point behind leaders Derby.

“I don’t get that we’re flying under the radar,” McCarthy said. “When people speak to me, nobody ever says ‘How are you doing, Mick?’. Most people say ‘You’re doing all right, you’re doing fine’.

“People are well aware of where we are in the league and the results that we’ve had, so I don’t think we’re sneaking under the radar, but I think there are others who are fancied far greater than we are.”

He says debut goalscorer Noel Hunt and his brother Stephen have been on the end of a fair bit of banter from the rest of the squad since Saturday's winning goalscorer joined on loan on Thursday.

“Straight away, the two of them," McCarthy continued. "They’re really good characters the Hunt sisters, they’re fantastic. They’ve had all of that, the lads have been getting stuck into them.

“They love it, they’re two good characters. I did ask Noel whether he was as daft as his brother and he said he didn’t know, so we’ll wait and find out.

“But if he’s as effective as his brother and if we get to love Noel as much as we do Stephen we’ll be all right, won’t we?”

McCarthy says the addition of the younger Hunt increases his options: “It adds a bit of competition for places as does Sean St Ledger.

"It’s nice when we’re doing OK to add some fresh faces, it’s easier to bring them in and integrate them.”

One manager and his team that definitely had no intentions of slipping under the radar was Cocky Adams and his budgies. In September he was on Talksport arrogantly talking about not promotion but winning the Championship. Have a look at his words today, pleading for time to sort out the mess his arrogance has caused. Said if many times before, but we are truly lucky to of obtained Mick's services.

Let's not get too cocky our selfs as Norwich, Notts F and Wolves were all shouting how good they were , teams outside of the top 6 are only 3 points away from us, Derby will be a real teat and we will need to be at our best,

Most on here said we would not make top 6 with the squad we had and plenty said that both Hunt were a waste of space.

Hope we sign more waste of space.

Why have we signed Colliins and Ambrose?

We have signed ambrose and collison to keep our current squad on there toes. If we have players breathing down there necks they won't take there foot off the pedal.

Karlos, are you having a pop at people who said the Hunts were a waste of space...while suggesting yourself that Ambrose and Collison are?

Nothing like a bit of hindsight is there?!

I for one hope Adams keeps his job he's doing a great job at the moment let's hope he keeps it going until Easter when they're in danger of relegation, sadly they,re still there and probably will be again once there over the blip

Karlos, these lads have signed short term contracts, if they produce prior form then maybe the big fella will take a chance on them, if not what's the big deal, there will be no contract offered. By the way Collison is injured, sadly this has caused him issues throughout his short career.

Isn't it interesting that we haven't seen any stupid Twitter stories from our squad this year! Maybe all the tw*ts have been farmed out and we have a squad of solid team players!

People seem to have missed Karlos' point... People slagged off the team and the Hunts etc and they're doing well, so he's seeing if the same rubs off on Ambrose and Collinson.

Agree Spanish, I think those with experienced squads like Norwich, (also Boro, Derby, Forest) are our biggest threat, but we've got the advantage of experience up top with MM/TC- they've been there before and are bringing in some good experienced guys with something to prove.....beginning to get quietly confident.

Couldn't agree with warktheline any more,we are extremely lucky to have obtained mm services.I posted on here a couple of weeks ago that I wished that me would give mm a few quid in jan to spend and it would more or less guarantee play offs, now changing my mind,I think hunt and st. Ledger are 2 great astute signings.Im beginning to think we won't need play offs.COYB

How good would it be to beat Norwich in play off final though, just a thought!!!!

I don't think we need any transfer kitty in Jan. But I do expect a continuation of funds for loans to supplement as required.

Long may this run continue. But if you offer me a play off place I would still take it. It is very tight.
