Arsenal Again Linked With £8m Mings Offer
Friday, 5th Dec 2014 00:24

Arsenal continue to be linked with an £8 million January move for Town left-back Tyrone Mings.

Today's Daily Telegraph reports the Gunners are ready to make the offer, while stories at the weekend claimed a bid was dependent on the North Londoners failing to land Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels.

The Blues - who have no immediate plans to make January sales - are understood to value the 21-year-old at more than £10 million.

Mings, who was amongst those at last night's Terry Butcher Legends on the Town event at the Dove Street Tavern, has regularly been watched by a host of Premier League clubs this season. The full-back is contracted until the summer of 2017.

Elsewhere, Town winger Stephen Hunt is currently embroiled in a lively exchange of views with former Gaelic footballer and pundit Joe Brolly in the Irish media.

Brolly, 45, recently said soccer players weren’t role models, a claim which Hunt responded to in his Sunday Independent column.

The 33-year-old said he believed Gaelic footballers and hurlers would find professional association football tough: “As somebody who grew up in the GAA, I can tell you that, as much as I love the games, if GAA players tried to live with the level of commitment shown by a professional footballer, they wouldn't know what hit them.”

Now Brolly has hit back saying he wouldn’t “imagine Stephen would have lasted five minutes in the Ulster club final last Sunday”. Adding: "Thank f*** I'm a GAA man."

Well I personally think he's already better than Keiran Gibbs. Never seen him have a really good game! Would like to think we'll keep our big guns until at least the summer. The only way we might sell is with a loan til the end of the season and buy 3 or 4 quality players with the money too.

For the time being, I'm still taking this as paper talk, and even if there is anything in it, I don't think he'll go at present.

I'm assuming Chippenham never negotiated a sell-on clause? £10,000 to £10,000,000 would've been a rather nice profit for them to get a percentage of...!

Not convinced. January has always been a time to buy with short-term thinking to put players straight in the first team. I think it would take a LOT for Wenger to take that risk with Mings because however well early played this year, he's never played at the highest level. Much more likely for me, that smaller clubs like palace or west brom to have a go at getting him, which means he might be less wiing to leave!

I'm sorry, but how are we meant to get back into BIG time football if we keep selling our best talent.
I remember someone comeing in for Kevin Beattie with a really good offer ( as it was then ) and Bobby Robson said ' yeah, you might get his lft boot for that' and then went on to building a side that took on Europe.
If we keep selling our best, we will never grow into the club that will be once again with the big guns.

Certain place in the team with a strong possibility of being in the prem next year or a probable place bench warming at best.

Remember Richard Wright he made the jump too soon.

Let's sell him and stay in the championship forever!

How much will he be worth to us if we stay in the top two and then end up in the PL? Way more than $10. Jonny Parr isn't going to keep us in the PL as our #1 left back and we can't bet on MM consistently finding this level of raw talent, for next to nothing. It's just not in the gene pool. So how much does Tyrone represent in terms of investment for this club? We simply cannot afford to sell him unless it's for much more than he's currently worth - we should think longer term. If he continues to play and to develop at this rate (and to rise in value at this rate) there's no way we can sell him for 10M or even 15M. We should everything we can to keep him, McGoldrick, and Bishop. We clearly have a championship winning team but that means nothing in the PL. Keeping our best players is vital to growth and prosperity. Staying in the PL is what we should be planning for, and this means considering the funds we will get from years of TV payouts, advertising, etc. So, how much is Tyrone Mings worth again?
