Mings Could Get England U21s Call
Wednesday, 10th Dec 2014 10:30

Scouts from the FA have reportedly been keeping tabs on Town left-back Tyrone Mings with a view to an U21 call-up in the near future.

According to the Daily Mail the FA are amongst those to have sent representatives to watch Mings in action in recent weeks with an U21 call likely to be on the horizon.

Premier League scouts were again out in force at Portman Road to catch Mings in action during Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Leeds. Last week, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirmed his interest in the defender.

Speaking prior to last month’s two England U21 friendlies against Portugal and France, Town manager Mick McCarthy said he wasn’t too disappointed to see the 21-year-old miss out from his own perspective but ultimately expected him to win a place in coach Gareth Southgate's plans.

“Let Ty have a rest because I think he’ll benefit from that and he’ll get in it,” he said. “I don’t doubt that at all because if there are any of them any better that are in that squad then I’d be interested to see them.”

The U21s are next in action against Germany in March, having qualified for next summer's European Championships in the Czech Republic.

U21s international football is a waste of time from a club perspective and an international perspective. It only works if you have the same mentality and style of play as the senior side. Which England do not. Also many players appear for international u21 sides and then never go on to gain a senior call up. U21s or not if you're good enough you will go on to play senior international football. So I hope Mings doesn't get called up for that reason

shoop what about the experience of playing international football, the pride of representing your country and the confidence boost from international recognition? Not to mention the increase in his profile when the "big clubs" come calling (which they inevitably will).

Do me a favour Shoop that's a load of tosh. Ty will get to play with the cream of England's young players against potentially the best of Germanys! Players have to become comfortable with playing at international level, whatever the age group. It must be pretty nervewracking for new squad members.

How will Ty cope training with lower standard players?

Ty said last week (at the Terry Butcher evening) that he really wants to make the squad for the Czech Rep tournament this summer. It'd be great for him to make the game v Germany, as they do take U21s very seriously.

.......... absolutely ludicrous that he hasn't yet been called up - just goes to show how 'on the ball' some of these England / FA wags are.

From Chippenham to England u21s in 3 short years. A real testament to the coaching staff at Town. Hope you get the call Tyrone.
