Williams Close to Return to Action But Probably Not With Town
Monday, 15th Dec 2014 16:29

Injured loanee Jonny Williams isn’t far away from getting back in action, according to his Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock. However, it seems more likely that the Wales international will come into Warnock’s plans at Selhurst Park rather than return to Town.

Williams has been out of action since suffering a groin injury in the Watford game early last month and has been rehabilitating back at Palace while still formally on loan with the Blues.

“Jonny was a lot happier on Wednesday and he’s another one who isn’t far away, hopefully by Christmas,” Warnock told the Croydon Advertiser.

Williams is due to remain with the Blues until January 3rd, however, Warnock had been weighing-up whether to utilise the Eagles’ 24-hour recall clause when the 21-year-old suffered his injury. He may again have him in his thoughts ahead of the busy Christmas period, although there is as yet no confirmation that he will call him back to South London.

Speaking a month ago, Town boss Mick McCarthy, who is likely to be keen on signing Williams for another loan spell should he become available again in the new year, suspected Palace might want the midfielder back once he had returned to fitness: “It’ll probably take him to the end of his loan and I think they’ll want to take a look at him themselves.”

Williams has made four starts and one sub appearance, scoring his only goal on his debut, since returning to the Blues in September.

Previously, he spent a successful spell at Town towards the end of last season, scoring once in 11 starts and two sub appearances.

Why would Palace allow this decent player to return to Town only yo be targeted by this divisions hatchet men and receive little or no protection from match officials.

I won't lose too much sleep if Williams doesn't return
The concerns before his second loan spell were that it might hold back Teddy
Had he been fully fit throughout the spell i believe it would have held Teddy back
TB is a classic case of what happens when you let a decent young player have experience
Is there one person on this forum that worries for a second if TB's name is on the team sheet these days...
I'd like to hear it if anyone does?

No surprise but obviously very disappointed if he gets recalled. If you do return Johnny, thank you very much for your efforts and hope you carve out a top career for yourself. A top bloke.

I love having Jonny in our team...but the positive aspect is that in my opinion he is no longer indispensable. He seems to be injury prone mainly because he is so brave and puts himself in harm's way.

It's not in our control so let's see what happens. I wish him well.

He's not injury prone he's to honest a guy,he takes pride in what he does lot of guts, never shirks anything,we should be thankful for his efforts on our behalf,I would, not be sorry if he came back. But it's time we handed out some harsh treatment to the bully boys in this league.Watford you know who you are along with the other whingers.Would like to see MMs ref assessments.

Really hope there 's some way we can get Jonny back in the New Year! Take the point about the progress of Teddy Bishop and the fact we're doing well without JW, however as the season goes on I really think if we can bring in one or two quality players it could be the difference between the play-offs or top two!

Maybe if we'd had JW as an option at Bolton we'd have sneaked a win? These types of games could be the difference at the end of the season!

Still think we are lacking an attack minded central midfield player.

Kicked out of the Championship - literally...

Yes, TB is coming on well. But Mick's view is that he shouldn't be playing 46 games a season at his age. As ever, I'm happy to go with his view.

I have to agree he got no protection from the Champiinship referees. He was in some games literally kicked off the park. Referees were quite happy to give out yellow cards for next to nothing but Jonny got taken out all the time and the tacklers very rarely got dealt with. He gave the side confidence when he played his attack minded playing style. If he isn't coming back we need someone playing a similar attacking style midfield role. TB also plays with style and gives confidence but we gave to be prepared to complete the whole season at the top of the table. Don't want to see TB get the Jonny treatment for the rest if the season or he won't last long either.

Is it controversial to say oh well to this?
Yes? No? Maybe
Well I really don't care that much to be fair as I think we are now more than capable in the department with the brilliance of young Teddy Bishop and the tenacity of Hunt, Tabb etc.

Would definitely re-sign him if possible but not exactly desperate for it. He hasn't been a shadow of the player he looked for us last season and very injury prone. I think Teddy Bishop's getting stronger and more confident in every game he plays and looks like he could potentially be our new Joniesta.

Teddy and Jonny are not playing in the same roles. If Jonny were here, he would be playing in the role that Hunty and Tabby have been playing. Teddy is a central midfielder and Jonny is going to play in an attacking role. It's a question of do we need him to play in the Hunty/Tabby role, and I think while they have been pretty good, the answer is a clear yes! We probably would have won yesterday if Jonny were playing instead of Tabby, no disrespect to him or...Hunty.

I've got a mate who supports palace and a few weeks back asked me about Mings as it's rumoured Warnock is planning a 10 million bid in January. He also thought that Jonny wouldn't play for palace again. Not saying I'd want to get rid of Mings, but palace would be a better fit, as he would be more likely to play first team football. Now if we want Jonny and they want Mings, that's when you do a cash plus player deal!!! Jonny certainly provides that creative spark we miss in midfield. Just putting it out there

jimmy.. i HIGHLY doubt that mings would go to palace for £10M considering, one, they do not have that sort of money, and two, they will not go from bidding 3M in the summer, to 10M this january!

Not that I want to see Mings ( although I fully accept he will at some point, but on our terms). But when he does go it wont be to the likes of soon to be Championship outfit Palace. He's destined gor greater things than them. He would be a perfect fit gor Arsenal. Their players tend to bd tall, lean and very athletically quick. Mings gits that prerequisite exactly.

Williams should be the first name on the team sheet if available.

Who knows why that's good, maybe we get another player in January who will give us something new and unpredictable for the second half of the season. Mick and lads surely showed us they can cope without Jonny. Stay positive! COYB!

warnock is just a Sunday league manager he just says this to raise the price in the mings/williams January swap. Forget Williams there are better attacking midfielder out there in fact we have have warming our bench called a certain Mr ambrose

I'm more keen (my name's Ray not Roy😲) to see like Hyam back on all cylinders.... Either beside Skuse or instead of him

JW is a great exciting player but wet needed him more last year than this. What progress we've made.

Id seriously like us to reject all bids in Jan if we are still up there unless we have replacements ready to roll ... Like Mings when we sold Creswell...

Promotion push or relegation dog fight... Premiership football with us or championship with palace (or arsenal reserves) next year????

Tough call (??) Tyrone!!!
