McCarthy: The Bish is Terrific
Tuesday, 16th Dec 2014 06:00

Town boss Mick McCarthy says all the talk may be about left-back Tyrone Mings but 18-year-old midfielder Teddy Bishop is also attracting plenty of interest having made a big impression after breaking into the first team earlier on in the season.

McCarthy believes Bishop, who was again amongst the Blues’ best performers at Bolton on Saturday, will improve further as he adds to his current total of eight starts, six sub appearances and one goal.

“He’s great, I love The Bish, he’s terrific,” McCarthy said. “I love players that work hard and that epitomise me.

“He puts his shift in and he’s a fabulous footballer and one that’s only going to get better.

“Everybody’s talking about Tyrone Mings, but there are plenty looking at him as well. Great, isn’t it?”

Regarding 21-year-old Mings, who is being eyed by most of the Premier League on a weekly basis with Arsenal having confirmed their interest, McCarthy felt he eventually got the better of a tough duel with Trotters winger Liam Feeney during Saturday’s 0-0 draw at the Macron Stadium.

“In the first half Feeney was getting at him and I think Ty won the second half, so I think he ended up winning the battle in my view,” the Blues boss added.

“There are always going to be times you’re going to be tested. He’s coming on nicely.”

Agree with mick, teddy is a fabulous footballer, when he is playing alongside hyam I feel we have the makings of a first class midfield for many years to come and both home grown of course which makes just that bit sweeter.

Teddy Bishop and my part in his rise - Me and my mates used to practice gliding past each other on the mud pitches at Ipswich Airport. I remember Bish watching us from his buggy. Hey ho!

Its great the club are backing youth again, it makes such a difference to the feel good factor.

Clarke, Smith, Hyam, Bishop, Mings could be the spine of a very successful team.
Lets hope we can keep these guys together and bring a few more through.

Another key factor in playing Bishop more is surely that we can't progress to category one academy status until we get more in the first-team..? I don't think Mings counts (anyone know?) but having Hyam, Bish and Mings in the team and the visible progression of Cresswell before his move makes us look a good bet for any young lads thinking of coming in.

First time I saw Bish was at Derby, excellent that day. Surprised that Hensall hasn't progressed too much

Love watching this kid play. A testament to our youth policy and the skill of the coaching staff. Plenty more to come hopefully.

It's great to have exciting young players making an impact once again. The last time I remember feeling so optimistic about a young blue was when Kieron Dyer was breaking into the team. Let's hope that's a good omen for things to come in the near future...

HALLS----I was also at Derby and echo your comments on Henshall who had a fantastic second half as we ran them ragged.

Whether he just does not do it in training or whether MM does not really fancy him,who knows, but I would love to see more of him.
