McCarthy Tight-Lipped on Sharp Move But Keeper Deal Agreed
Saturday, 17th Jan 2015 18:01

Boss Mick McCarthy was keeping typically tight-lipped when quizzed on the Blues’ move for Leeds United striker Billy Sharp.

Town and Leeds are understood to be in talks regarding Sharp with the Blues keen to take the striker on loan but the Whites wanting to offload the former Sheffield United, Doncaster and Southampton man on a permanent basis.

Asked about reports of his interest in Sharp, McCarthy said: “Have I said anything to you about Billy Sharp?

“Where’s the story come from then? Unless I said we were doing something with him, then I wouldn’t comment on it because he’s Leeds’ player, he’s not my player.

“That’s generally the case, you ask me about players all the time and I say ‘Is he one of mine?’. ‘No’, well, I don’t talk about him. That’s exactly the same as this.”

Leeds boss Neil Redfearn confirmed that the clubs had been talking but said they had been unable to agree a loan deal as yet and said he'd like to keep Sharp at Elland Road.

McCarthy confirmed that he is close to confirming the signing of a back-up goalkeeper on loan but wouldn’t be drawn on the player's identity: “I can tell you who it is, but I’m not going to. The deal is agreed.”

regarding sharp, if mcarthy is unlikely to be in for him as he is usually done with these sort of deals by now. but would still be happy with him if we got him.

any ideas on who the keeper could be?

Sharp will be a town player come the end of Jan, 1 way or another, either that or Vaz Te on a short term deal. The sticking point with sharp will be loan/perm signing.

Let's get the sharp deal done. A goal scorer. Would really boost our promotion challenge. Add a Jonny Williams type player and we will really be in business!

Gerks is out for a month, if Bart got injured I'd want someone tried and tested to come in. A promotion push is not the time to blood young keepers. Kenny will do for a month but sure there are better options out there. Lets see.

RE Sharp, would prefer a loan with a view to the move if we are champ nxt season then yes please if we are premier league, mmmmm. Maybe but would again suggest some stronger options might be out there

How does MM keep 5 strikers happy? If this Sharp deal is a reality then does this mean that Didsy could be on his way out?

apparently Neil Redfearn said after the Leeds game in a radio interview that he wants Billy Sharp to stay at Leeds! Not sure if Redfearn has much say with regards to players coming or going though tbh!

Billy is probably considered unlucky my Cellino because goats are often called Billy and like the devil they have horns. Bad Juju cosa nostra style.

I wouldn't be happy with Paddy Kenny, I'm not sure if he would upset the apple cart.

Get sharp for 1 million, Sell didzy for 8+ million re-invest the 7 million in a couple more top quality midfielders 1 being a very good playmaker and then bring in another defender for cover! I love didzy but think he's not quite been hus excelkent best sense his injury and if we can get that type of money for him and then get a few quality players in which will improve the side and our promotion push its gotta be good business!! COYB!!!!

Didzy body language dosen't look good and I feel he's off soon, hence Sharp deal. Otherwise why would we need 5 strikers now!
Really pleased with Freddie and Hunt junior, just hope they link up with Murph ok

I would go for Sharp, keep other strikers well on their toes and move McG in the middle, he's got it all except the goal, then we don't need another AM, we'd have Bish and McG.

Today's result won't have hurt our chances of getting Sharpe. He knows the fans will support him - agree a busy forward thinking midfielder will be icing on cake

Keeper will be Lewis Price, Sharp will be in the Town squad for Wednesday.

It would be awesome if Mick gave Shane Supple his faith back in football! :)
I felt at the time we should sell McGoldrick, just because the money being touted was so high. I like him a lot and he will probably come good, but I consider him pretty injury prone so think it better to cash in while we can, that is if the old offers are still forthcoming.
