Liverpool Linked With Bishop
Monday, 19th Jan 2015 00:28

Liverpool are reportedly leading the chase for 18-year-old Town midfielder Teddy Bishop.

According to The Mirror, Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham are also eyeing the academy product but the Reds are said to be most keen to land the £10 million-rated youngster.

Town are reported to have rebuffed an enquiry from the Merseyside club earlier this month but the paper claims the Blues may be more willing to do a deal in the summer.

Earlier in the month, boss Mick McCarthy said he was aware of Premier League interest in Bishop with scouts from all the top flight’s big names having been regular visitors to Portman Road to keep tabs on Tyrone Mings in any case: “[Teddy] is attracting almost as much interest as Tyrone Mings.”

McCarthy has also repeatedly stated that he expects no one to be sold during the January transfer window, barring the club receiving an “astronomical bid”.

In September, Bishop signed a new contract running to 2016 with an option for a further season.

Meanwhile, Colchester United are believed to be targeting Blues striker Jack Marriott to replace Freddie Sears, who joined Town on Friday. Marriott, 20, is currently on loan at Woking.

Can't see it. He's having a fantastic season, but it was a gamble for us to put him on at Derby that day, never mind a Premier League team taking a £10m punt. No sense leaving regular football here behind and going there only to get 10mins of a League Cup tie against Rotherham followed by two seasons on loan at Chesterfield and Port Vale. Similar to Mings' situation, but I'd argue even Mings is further developed than Teddy at this stage.

i agree with NoCanariesAllowed, there is no way that i can see this happening. Cant see any prem club stumping up the money that we want for him at the stage of development that he is at. Same with mings, that may be a different story come the end of the season, however i cant see that either bishop or mings would want to leave just yet. Surely they must have seen what has happened to people like Wickham, who even at a club like sunderland has struggled to prove his worth and progress.

Bish would be crazy to move on at this stage of his career, when he can get first team football here and will potentially be playing in the Prem next season ........... in blue!

Nah! if they were then why would they let it be known now? If we go up there's no chance and if we don't they've just pushed the price up!

Remember money talks. Young players are no different. They will see ££££ signs floating before their eyes. Let's hope our two young stars have the integrity to put their football careers first (i. e. stay with us for the foreseeable future) and realise the money will come later on. I am optimistic they will, as they seem like sensible young men as far as one can judge. I always remember seeing Jamie Clapham turning up for a match at PR in what looked like a Ford Fiesta. It probably wasn't, and maybe he'd borrowed it, but it made an impression at the time. " Good on you." It wasn't till many years later I got my first and until now only car - a Ford Fiesta! 😀

Marcus is giving mick money to strengthen the squad if we don't get promoted we will have to sell to balance the books so we are within financial fair play rules

I imagine Teddy would only want to play for one of two teams:
Us and Spurs

Bishop is no different to any other player. It is all about money and if the money is right he will go because he will pocket thousands even though he will be lucky to bench warm - at whatever club he eventually goes to

Sell him for £10m and get in Williams

Just enjoy the fact that top clubs are being linked with our players, as it underlines the talent we have in our side and, I think, gives players a good confidence boost.

'According to The Mirror'. Might as well read 'according to 'The Beano'.

Purely in terms of football development, not money, I think that both Mings and Bishop should go nowhere for at least another two seasons - whether we go up at the end of this season or not.

i know it is a huge statement, but ravel morrison? available for a free, an absolutely fantastic player, but has a shocking attitude! can get forward, has immense vision and can score goals! i believe mick and terry could make him into a fantastic player.. aftef all fergie did say he is the best youngster he has ever seen. just wages might scupper it!

Liverpool were linked with Will Hughes last season and Rodgers said Hughes should stay put and play games. Cannot see this being true.

Is Bishops agent negotiating a new contract for him?

We need to be carful for English football as a whole here. Its getting very much like Scotland where all the big teams buy the good young talent jst so that they can no longer score against them! If we aren't careful the big 4/5 will just get further and further ahead

Bish wont be going anywhere this season.

Colchester would be a good move for Jack. Its close to home and he should settle quickly. Plus they are a stable club and dont make too many rash decisions.
A great place for Jack to develop and hopefully get the games he needs at League level.

I like the fact he is being mentioned against clubs like Liverpool as it shows his potential. If there is any truth in this however, I hope senior figures at the club help guide him in staying here as he needs this season and at least another to continue learning his trade.

Would be nonsensical to let any of our best players go before we find out which division we're in next season..Teddy should stay put for at least a couple of years anyhow..only a money grabbing agent would encourage him to move now.

We already have a small squad, we can ill afford to lose anyone, let alone one of our better performers and frankly our one and only creative influence in the centre of midfield

Dean Bowditch was going to be destined for bigger things after just half a season and look how things turned out! The Bish is far better off with Town and I reckon he knows it too!

.......... wouldn't be surprised, he will certainly play at that level sooner or later.
