Marriott Loan Confirmed as Hewitt Extends U's Stay
Tuesday, 20th Jan 2015 11:05

Town have confirmed that Jack Marriott has joined Colchester United on loan for the rest of the season, as TWTD revealed yesterday, while Elliott Hewitt has extended his stay at the Weston Homes Community Stadium for a further month.

Marriott, 20, was recalled from his latest loan spell at Woking yesterday to join the League One U’s with the switch having been arranged as part of the deal which saw Freddie Sears join the Blues on Friday. Town can recall him at 24 hours' notice.

The Beverley-born striker, whose Town contract is up at the end of the season, has spent much of the last two seasons on loan in the Vanarama Conference with the Cards and has also had spells in the Football League with Gillingham and Carlisle.

Wales U21 international Hewitt, whose Town terms are also up in the summer, initially joined the U's in October and has now made 16 starts and has scored one goal.

The 20-year-old right-back or midfielder can also be recalled at 24 hours' notice.

Good opportunity for Marriott to get some games at a higher level - hope it works out and it also gives us a chance to keep a closer eye on his progress to see if it's worth doing a Bowditch with him and giving him a new contract in the summer.
Good luck Jack.

Working closely with our neighbours is ideal, IMO. We loan them our best younger players and give them some that are past it, and we scout their best younger players. Doesn't always work out (Wordsworth a good example) but its what you'd ideally hope for.

The apostrophe is in the wrong place... ;-)

ColU are known as "the Us", so it should be "Hewitt extends Us' stay".

This is assuming there is an apostrophe at all, of course. You could make a case that there shouldn't be one.

Hopefully Jack will now be able to come back for a few training sessions with TC–everyone seems to agree that he's the best coach of strikers around.

Best of luck to both players. Hopefully part of their learning curve to make them better players and hopefully return ready to challenge for places in the squad.

Odds on Jack will sign a contract with Col U at the end of the season.
And that is his best route forward.
