McCarthy Will Look at Loans But Not Yet
Friday, 6th Feb 2015 06:00

Town boss Mick McCarthy expects Premier League clubs to have players who are surplus to requirements available on emergency loans in the weeks to come.

The January transfer window closed earlier this week with Irish youngster Dylan Connolly the only addition, but the Blues manager has said that with games coming thick and fast he will utilise the emergency loan provision, which is available until the final Thursday in March and allows Football League clubs to bring players in on loans of up to 93 days.

“I spoke to TC this morning, we just sat down and had a discussion about it,” he said. “We’ve got three games in a week coming up and we’ve got 18 fit players, so it’s important that we get the most out of them in every game.

“Most of them have played a good chunk of the games that we’ve played already. But there is that emergency loan option.

“I think now that the window is shut, there’ll be Premier League clubs that might have somebody coming back from injury, there might be somebody surplus to requirements, so they might give them out for a month. We’ll see. But at the moment, we’re OK, we’re fine as we are.”

He says he wasn’t overly concerned by the transfer window's closure, having known that none of his players would be moving on.

“I’m not bothered at all, there was none of them that were ever going,” he added. “I spoke to an agent yesterday who [looks after] some of the players and I think maybe they were wondering whether anything was going to happen.

“And he said ‘No, I’ve spoken to your gaffer, he’s says it’s not happening and I actually believe him’.

“Some managers at some clubs say it’s not happening, it’s not going to happen, we’re not selling anybody just to drive the price up.

“But he said he didn’t believe for one minute that I was doing that. It was ‘No, they’re not going’ and that was the case.

“The only reason I thought I was glad to see the back of the window was so that nobody asked me about it, but now you have!”

He added: “Thankfully some people actually believe what they read when I said ‘None of them are for sale, none of the players are leaving’.

“I get loads of text messages about players, about other players, asking if I want to have a look at them.

“‘This one’s coming up, he can go, they’ll let him out on loan’. ‘How much is he on?’, ’28 grand a week’, ‘Thanks very much, he probably isn’t for me’.

“I got a whole lot of that, which is normal. I got quite a lot of people sending me left-backs in case we lost Tyrone Mings and that was about it.

“There weren’t many putting centre forwards to me in case I lost Murph or Didz or midfield players in case I lost Bish. Ty was the talk of the town, wasn’t he?

“That was about it. ‘Are you doing anything?’, ‘No, we’re not, we’ve got 20-odd players’.”

Cmon MM, our midfield could do with an addition, we need a bit of daring do in there!

There we go again. Stubborn MM. we've got what we need. Can't improve on what we have. Happy with squad etc etc. I know he has to say these things publicly but please, do me a favour Mick. We couldn't fill the bench a couple of weeks ago. We have players who are plainly not good enough and have massively over achieved. We have been worked out by teams and with no injection of fresh faces we will fall away. There is better available, to say differently is just wrong. With what we have Mick you need to play our best 11 in their correct positions !!! No more square pegs in round holes just to accommodate your favourites who are being shown up.

Team for tomorrow should be :-

Bart - Parr Chambers Berra Smith Mings - Bru Bishop Didzy - Murph Sears

We have 3 centre halves NONE of them can or should play full back so play them all. This then gives us the desperately needed width and pace that we are so clearly missing with the very very average at best Anderson and Tabb. Play our most technically gifted and best passers of the ball in midfield. Didzy just in front to open the defence up. And the best 2 goalscorers up front !!!

Dare you Mick. That's our best 11 in their best positions. Novel idea that ???

Prebbs007 .......I think we would stand more chance of winning with 11 players!

I wouldn't play the 3 CB's, if one got injured who is there to bring on for cover?
I think our best 11 would be a 41212, it's a very narrow set up but Skuse could cover the back 4 to allow the full backs to push on:
Bart
Parr Chambers Berra Mings
Skuse
Bish Bru/Tabb
Didz
Sears Murphy

I feel this set up would scare opposition, we have the option to go long with Sears playing off a Murphy knock down, or Didz could have a free role and play deeper demanding the ball from midfield - here he would pull the CB's higher up the field allowing Murphy and Sears all the space in the world.

barrysandals... i had to recount myself !! hahaha i did not give you the -ve for your comment not sure who did... asnd as everyone who posts basically agreed my team not sure how i got -3 either.... oh well all about opinions i guess.... i think thats our best 11 players and all of them would be comfortable in that formation.... MM's is the only opinion that matters tho, just hope he can get past his rigidity and see he will not be weak to make the changes, we need pace and width in the team, we need to be different as opposition is getting wise.

A little hint that williams is on his radar.... Players coming back from injury... Let's hope so before Derby get him

I also think we may well be back in for Williams, MM may be holding off so once he is in it is for the rest of the season!

Prebbsie----virtually agree with your every word my friend but to really scare the opposition and freshen things up would put Mings in midfield----his surging runs at defenders would give tham something to think about and create chances-----unlike last weeks disaster.

I still fully expect Jonny Williams to return once he's fit. Palace bought two or three midfielders on deadline day so his best hope is to get on loan and put himself in Pardew's plans for the summer. Don't know why everyone are moaning so much, we did sign Noel Hunt and Freddie Sears during the window. The last thing a close knit squad would want is a big time Charlie on £30k a week to stroll in there and ruin the spirit.

Notice in Micks remarks he said had 18 fit players, just enough to fill the bench then.Am still puzzled as to why squad so small.Just like the Ambulance service pared down to the bone and no spare capacity

If things don't improve with team selection and tactics we will probably be out of top six in a month.

Mr Evans - I agree with your team, I've called it 433 but very close to a 442 diamond, this will give us the men in the middle to have alternatives to just hitting it long
BialkowskiParrChambersBerraMingsSkuseBishopTabbSearsMcGoldrickMurphy
Substitutes: Kenny   Smith   Clarke   Bru   Anderson   S. Hunt   N. Hunt

We seemed a lot more impressive earlier this season with 4-3-3, playing a high pressing game and able to control more of the possession with 3 in the middle. After this break hopefully the players will be able to press again like they did before xmas. Parr coming in as a more natural full back than Chambers, so Smith is the unlucky one to miss out. Bru also just as unlucky, but I think we need Skuse's defensive awareness, Tabb's workrate and Bishop gets the nod because of his class! Ambrose unlucky to not even make the bench!

After reading HarryfromBath's report on Rotherham I think I swap Sear + Murphy around, so Sears can expose Richardson's lack of pace and Murphy can dominate Fryers aerially

We may have a small squad but we do have a small squad packed with championship quality, in midfield we have the likes of:
Bru, Tabb, Anderson, Bishop, S Hunt, Skuse, Ambrose, Stewart, Henshall & Hyam.
That's a heck of a lot of good standard championship players and many who feel they should be in a starting 11 but with these many they'll be 4 or 5 who wouldn't even be able to make the bench!
We have good players and good cover in every department - which is why MM is stating that he'll obly get someone in who is better than what we have. Okay maybe Jonny Williams would be a good shout as an attacking midfielder, but what we certainly done need is another CM.
We have good 3 good CB's in Smith, Chambo & Berra with the likes of Clarke and even Mings who can cover if needs be. Maybe another natural full back as we only really have Parr, Mings & Hewitt.
I don't worry with what we have up top: Didz, Murphy, N Hunt & Sears are 3 good championship strikers who are capable of getting goals. I feel Didz has been poor this season, his head is down and needs an arm put around him. If he can find a bit of form then with out any doubt we can hit a top two spot without any loan reinforcements.
