McGoldrick Expected Back for Fulham Trip
Thursday, 12th Feb 2015 14:22

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he expects striker David McGoldrick to be available for Saturday’s trip to Fulham.

McGoldrick missed the 2-1 home victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday having picked up a thigh problem at Rotherham last week.

“I’m hoping he’ll be available for the weekend and then if that’s the case we’ll be back to nearly everybody being right,” McCarthy said.

“There’s only Luke Hyam and he has a long-term injury so he was always going to be a while.

“It’ll be great to have Didz back, you miss your best players and he’s been one of our best players.”

Hyam suffered a medial ligament injury in the FA Cup replay against Southampton and was expected to be sidelined for around six weeks.

McCarthy confirmed that recently signed winger Dylan Connolly, 19, will travel with the senior squad for the first time.

The Blues boss also dismissed this morning’s tabloid claim that he was interested in signing Leeds midfielder Rodolph Austin on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Asked whether there was any truth in the report, he said: “No, he’s a good player, but no.”

McCarthy says no moves in or out are currently on the cards: “There’s nobody going out on loan. I’ve not had any discussions about that and there’s nobody imminently moving in either.”

Fit enough for the bench yes as he needs to realise he's not playing as well as he was and maybe a kick up the backside will give him the jolt he needs.

IT is ok by me !! as long as he does drop Sears to the bench for him !!!!!

If MM breaks up the Murphy:Sears partnership for a Didsy return then the latter had better start scoring some fkuckin goals, that's all I say. Best player crap or not. If a player ain't producing the goods (IMO McGoldrick isn't) then he shud have to fight for his place like any other.

Just my opinion, that's all guys.

Oh dear.

I went to the Rotherham and Sheffield games and the difference between both games was McGoldrick.

Sears linked up really well with Murphy, he was fast, keen, showed great ability, set up the goal, almost scored and worked his socks off.

Just watch at DMcG in the pre-match warm ups he appears languid and uninterested, he seems to be in a spiral of lethargy and desperation to shoot at any angle in order to start getting goals again rather tham play for the team.

Players need to know that if they're not on form then they won't start. No player should be bigger than the team.

Will be a massive mistake to start him over N. Hunt or Sears.

Part of me wishes we'd got the 7 or 8 million pounds for him from Leicester. We'd do well to get 3 for him now. Seems, after the injury, to have lost some spark.

Agree with most on here. Bench for Mr McG.

However, let's not kid ourselves. Without McG distracting 1-3 players for much of the season, Murphy would not be top of the goal scoring table.

Team needing fresh legs. Sears has been a breath of fresh air. But McG is still MMs go to guy me thinks !

Agree - he has always had that 'languid' style
He did have a pretty bad injury and it has taken time
Our poor hoof ball of January just does not suit his style of play and I am sure - like us - HE was getting frustrated
I think with Parr Sears and Murp in side he can play a great role just off the front two
Would love to see those three as think they would be a right handful !

Oh no, an actual article on McG to give all his doubters the opportunity to slag him off even more.
Sorry but didnt see many on here critisising him when we were winning. He has played very well for a lot of matches this season and has been our best player since he joined. Yes his form has gone off recently but he is obviously carrying an injury and it may be a touch of frustration showing through.
All this 'languid and uninterested' is just crap being spouted by people who dont understand.
I think McG is great and hope he gets back to full fitness real soon.

I dont think we can be too harsh on him, yes he needs goals and strikers are ultimately judged on that BUT i do think he is the conduit for so much of our good play, I think he is a creater and I think he would have had a few more but for some cracking goal keeping this season. As said above he take players with him leaving space for others and his overall contribution has been decent, it is only the goals that have been lacking

I see him and sears either side of Murph or Dids in behind,

I'm well aware of how good he has been for us, but he's not performed this season. Sure, we expect a lot, yes, we are all fickle and no doubt he'll score a hat-trick against Fulham and I'll happily apologise.

But as for "not understanding", I understand what I watched after three hours in the car last Saturday, and I understand that it would be unfair on players that ARE performing not to start.

I do not think that McG is sulking or not trying, in fact I think he is trying too hard but some things that were working for him last season are not working this season.
I (as some others) think he should be in the side just behind Murphy and Sears.
To get him back in, I think Ambrose(unluckily) would need to be left out from the side that played most of the second half on tuesday..Maybe play Parr on right,in front of Chambo although Parr and Mings worked well on left second half tuesday.
It is a selection problem but in my view a fit McGoldrick should be in the starting team.

McGoldrick should be dropped. He looked particularly lazy/ not bothered VS Wigan. Should be made to fight for a place and not just walk into the team every week.

I have always maintained McGoldrick has always been overrated by most. That's not to say he hasn't been one of our best players and had some very good games this year (I actually thought he was at his best after his injury at the start of the season).

I just don't think people should be so surprised to see his form drop, but I do agree that he has become petulant and frustrated recently, and that he should take a place on the bench against Fulham if we go 4-4-2. Muprhy and Sears up top.

Dids is our class player yes hes not doing well at the moment. Could be the transfer talk or just frustration because of the way we play as we havent been creating any proper chances for him.I do believe the same team should start on sat why change a winning team but I think Mick will play him and I wont argue to much with that.If that is the case Ambrose or Bishop might drop out with Dids hopefully played behind Murf and Sears.Just hope we keep a bit of footballers not hoofballers in the side...

I dont think any Town fan doubts McGoldrick's, only his current match fitness and form. The issue is sìmple. Why should this player be played when he is clearly struggling, when any other player in the squad WILL get dropped for similar problems?

The other issue surrounding McG is, is his heart still in ITFC or not, is an ongoing debate. The answer to which we will never be privy too, and only the player himself, can answer.

....the missing word in the top line after McGoldrick, should be "ability". But i suspect you worked that out for yourselves.

Just behind Murphy and Sears (like a shadow forwards) maybe will give us some surprise you never know !MICK!
And I wish Sears make the start,he was full of fighting desire and go forward after I watched the highlight.(have a excellent assist also)

My biggest concern is the backline, playing Chambers out of position when it would be better to have Parr at RB and Smith go back to the bench. We've conceded too many silly goals, sometimes from set pieces. Parr Chambers Berra Mings is our best back four.

I agree with those who think McG should play behind Murphy and Sears. Sears has been a very good signing and Murphy's had a dream season. McG will perk up, I'm sure.

McG is not suddenly a bad player and doesn't deserve any stick.
Having said that he has been on bad form/is recovering from injury and should be an impact sub or could start, but only as part of a front three.
Sears has really earnt his chance to start alongside Murp, in my opinion.
It's MM's opinion that counts though and we will see on Saturday...

Be good to have him back all the poor bugger needs is a goal to lift him as all strikers do the last couple of games he's played he has not looked fully fit(maybe he should have not played, but which player doesn't want to play!!??) and as a result he's had people with short memories on his back, sooner rather than later I can see him back to his old self and banging em in again having said that I feel he should be on the bench Saturday and let Sears start with Murph and if it does not go well what a sub to bring on!! I reckon we will win at the cottage I'm really looking forward to going there again and meeting a few old mates who are both Fulham and football fans who appreciate watching a good team

He's clearly a good player in a bit of a poor run of goal scoring form. His passing and positioning are still as good as anyone in the club but he is frustrated by not finishing as well as he did last season. He is trying his heart out, no doubt about that, no player stays in a MM side without 100% commitment and effort, it's just not gone his way this year. I think he can play in behind Sears and Murphy and when all are fit I think they make up our best attack. With Skuse sitting behind Bishop and Bru and and our defence as it is with maybe Parr in for Chambers (Although I think the job Chambers is now doing at right back is under apreciated) we will be a very attacking (we'll score one more than you) type team.
