Blackburn Striker Linked
Monday, 16th Feb 2015 13:14

Blackburn striker Luke Varney is the latest striker to be linked with a loan move to the Blues.

The 32-year-old is currently out of favour at Ewood Park and looks set to go out on loan with a switch to Millwall having broken down close to the end of the transfer window.

Town, Brighton and Sheffield Wednesday are amongst a number of Championship clubs currently understood to be showing interest.

Varney started his career with Crewe and has subsequently has spells with Charlton, Derby, Sheffield Wednesday, Blackpool, Portsmouth and Leeds before joining Rovers in the summer following a loan at the end of last season.

The Leicester-born 5ft 11in tall striker has made only one start - in the Capital One Cup in August - and 13 sub appearances during 2014/15.

Town boss Mick McCarthy appears keen to add another frontman to his squad, having made an ultimately unsuccessful move for Leeds’ Billy Sharp last month, while cover might be required if Noel Hunt is out for any length of time with the knee injury he suffered at Fulham on Saturday.

Would prefer another Blackburn striker who doesn't seem to be getting a lot of games at the moment. Jordan Rhodes

I'm sure this will get a few groans in much the same way Noel Hunt did before he made a lot of people look silly by netting the winning goal against Charlton. Whatever happened to give somebody a chance?
Any striker coming here will have to battle it out with Murphy, Sears, McGoldrick and injury pending Hunt so I doubt we will attract any big names or for that matter premier league youngsters looking for games.
Varney has been around and is a seasoned campaigner. He would certainly be a handy option and could well once again prove a lot of people wrong.

No thanks. We need a striker, but Murray a miles better player.

Always quite liked him, not exactly a prolific striker but nippy and usually makes a nuisance of himself.

Wouldn't be dissapointed. Would be happy with Murray as well but that's quite a small rumour at this stage I think?

not much to get excited about for a loan if MM is only looking at players worse than what we've got and are only for bench warming

Walberswicks - would that be the same bucket we found Murphy, McGoldrick, Berra, Chambers, Skuse, Gerken, Tabb and Anderson in? As well as Ambrose, Steven Hunt, and Noel Hunt?

I've moaned about some of the names we've signed previously such as Stephen and Noel Hunt, Jay Tabb, Christophe Berra etc have gone on to become valuable first team players. So whoever Mick decides to bring in I'll give my 100% backing. If it doesn't work then we don't lose anything or we could find another player who just needs a manager to show confidence in them to re-find their form.

I remember he scored an absolute screamer for Blackpool early on in their premier league season. Aside from that though not done much
