Winning Debut for Crowe
Tuesday, 24th Mar 2015 22:10

Blues keeper Michael Crowe’s Woking debut ended in a 3-2 victory over Torquay United at the Kingfield Stadium.

Crowe, 19, conceded two goals within 19 minutes of his first senior game, Aaron Downes heading the Gulls in front on 17 and Louis Briscoe adding the second with a shot two minutes later.

But the Cards hit back in the second half and goals from Yemi Odubade, Josh Payne and Scott Rendell saw them to victory and up to sixth in the Vanarama Conference, one place and one point off the play-offs.

Afterwards the Wales U19 tweeted: "Buzzing to have made my debut for Woking, loved it, massive three points as well."

Crowe joined Woking on loan until the end of the season earlier today.

I went as soon as I knew he was playing. Commanded his area very well and loudly collected crosses as oppose to punching and kicked well with both feet mate

From the 'Western Morning News':

'Woking were stunned by United's fast start. Luke Young got it going, intercepting a Mark Ricketts pass and slipping Ryan Bowman through for a shot saved at the second attempt by Michael Crowe, in for the Cards' injured ex-Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Jake Cole.
...in the 16th minute, just after Briscoe forced a full-length save from Crowe after a one-two with Bowman, Downes gave United a deserved lead.
...Another Woking mistake let in Bowman — he hit the target, but Crowe denied him with a terrific save."

Sounds a very good debut from that report.

Lets hope it helps him kick on, commanding area and catching crosses are two qualities lacking in the Town goal at present!

I was at the game last night too. Very impressive debut in my opinion. If I was being a bit critical (I used to be a goalkeeper), I would say that his positioning was slightly out for the first Torquay goal and a few of his kicks out of his hands all seemed to bend to the right plus one or two went out for a Torquay. I'll put that down to nerves.

Other than that, a great debut and after a few more confidence building games with Woking in good form, I'm sure he will turn out to be a fantastic option for Town in years to come.

....... Crowe has the makings of a very good keeper ......... let's just hope he doesn't drift off elsewhere,

His future needs to be here - I'd much prefer him to be given chances before Paddy Kenny, who is definitely past his best.
