Hewitt Recalled From Colchester
Wednesday, 25th Mar 2015 17:21

Elliott Hewitt has been recalled from his loan at Colchester United. The Wales U21 international had been due to spend the rest of the season with the U's.

The Blues are in need of cover at full-back with Tyrone Mings suspended for two games having picked up 10 bookings and Jonny Parr having missed the win at Watford after suffering a knock in the victory over Bolton.

Colchester boss Tony Humes is disappointed to lose the 20-year-old, who initially joined the League One club in October and made 24 starts, scoring one goal.

"We hoped we would have Elliott for the remainder of the season but Ipswich have taken him back for their run-in," Humes told the Colchester club site.

"He's done a great job in a couple of positions for us and we wish him well for the future."

would like to see him given a go, but can't see it happening, think that clarke is ahead of him in Micks's eyes

Coming back as cover then. Maybe not much point in being at a doomed looking Col who. I suspect Parr will play left back fri week with Clarke and Hewitt cover on the bench.

Will be very handy having him around for the run-in - believe he can hold his own in this division

I'd imagine Parr will go straight in at left back if he's fit. Still think Hewitt could be a good player for us in the future and would like to see him given a chance. Matt Clarke is also a good option to have.

Yeah, sure he plays right wing at Col U, got a couple of assists i think, plus a 'was-it-a-cross?' goal.

442. You say Clarke is ahead of Hewitt in the pecking order. But isn't Clarke left footed and Hewitt right footed? And also, which player has played competitive football week in week out? I'd say Hewitt may be ahead of Clarke tbh.

Bluemachines, yeah clarke will be ahead in pecking order because he has been kept with us and been on the bench a fair few times as well. Also hewitt is a right sided player meaning that he isn't going to be used as cover at left back anyway.

What worries me the most, is with just two defenders out, we only have three experienced defenders available. Clarke is a rookie. Clearly essential that Hewitt is recalled, which means we are back to four, for four positions. Little doubt in my mind that Hewitt should play above Clarke as he has experience.

Looking at how few defenders we have at the club, it makes it even more remarkable that we are sixth. You also have to consider that we were unable to name a full number of subs this season. Sixth with a small squad is good going, but we should have invested in January to top squad up.

I have always got the impression that MM has a very high regard for Kyle Hammond. I'm guessing that the fact that Elliott Hewitt has been playing regular football puts him ahead in the pecking order. I like Hewitt so I'm not complaining and still hope he has a future at the club. I suspect though that MM may have to choose in the summer and 1 will be leaving the club.

Thought he looked good whenever he's played for us, despite his physique he's a tough little player. Hope he gets a game seeing as he's been recalled and doesn't just keep the bench warm.

Its cover nothing more , Whether Hewitt is motivated is a another question. The fact when he played he was roughly the sixth best player on the pitch for us and chambers has been roughly the 9th best player for us speaks volumes. At least Hewitt doest get scared by that daunting white line that is half way up the pitch ,for chambers this white line is a cliff edge ,he wont go near it lol

Good to see him back and I hope the club take up the option of extending his deal. He's versatile, young and pacey. He played very well right midfield against Fulham at the start of the season.

As long as he hoofs the ball past the midfield, i would say his place is assured if he does crack the firs team

Why he ever went out on loan I can't fathom...right back or right midfield (as per the brief games at the start of the season in which he played quite well).
