Varney's Loan Extended
Thursday, 26th Mar 2015 10:24

Town have confirmed the extension of striker Luke Varney’s loan from Blackburn until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old joined the Blues for an initial month but with an agreement that he could stay for the rest of the season. The break allows the 93-day limit of his loan to stretch to the end of the play-offs.

Varney’s new deal runs to the final day of the regular Championship season on Saturday 2nd May - although he will be ineligible against his parent club when Town end their campaign at Ewood Park - with an option for him to stay until after the play-offs if required.

Much-travelled Varney has made two starts and four sub appearances for the Blues but is yet to find the net.

Richard Chaplow’s loan from Millwall is similarly set to be formalised to the end of the season at some point today.

Quite like the bloke... Works very very hard for the team!
And now has some game time under his belt is looking sharper - can only be beneficial!

Got slowly better. Made a difference v Bolton and I thought he did ok at Watford as well (just as good as Wood)

He must be in the top 10 percent of championship players in terms of effort put in ,very useful player within our small squad...

I actually thought he was far better than Wood at Watford... Here's to finding the net soon too.

Can only assume you weren't at Watford, Varney was probably our best player until subbed. Wood is very strong with ball to feet but for a big guy terrible in the air and very poor with offside. Ala Kevin Lisbie.

Would have him over Wood every day, Wood gives us nothing extra.
Varney played well at Leeds also, won every header and worked his socks off. No idea why Mick subbed him that night.

He has done okay. Miles better than Wood. But will he score goals? Great work rate.

I would have both varney and wood. Both played exceptionally well at Watford.

I heard he was very good first half vs Watford. When he came I imagine he had little confidence which he is starting to get back.

I assume he won't be able to play against Blackburn last game of the season, but would be amazing if he scored the winner for us.

Why are some comparing Varney to Wood? Different players that compliment team in their own way.
Both played very well at Watford, Varney worked extremely hard up and down pitch, aiding and relieving pressure from back 4, and assisted Murphy and Wood up top. Wood played with ball to feet, and held ball up well.
In my opinion, all three loan signing will be an asset to the team.
It's a shame so many rubbish these players before they've even kicked a ball in anger. All three have been in and around championship, and know how to get out of the this division .

Have seen a gradual improvement in all three of the' emergency loan' signings.
Slow starts to be expected bearing in mind none have played much prior to coming here.
Considering how many 'ordinary players' whether free transfers, rejects from other clubs;and those unattached have been molded into an efficient unit fighting for promotion.
MUCH CREDIT SHOULD BE GIVEN TO THE ABILITY OF THE COACHING STAFF ESPECIALLY MM & TC

Didn't think Wood did. Bottled every header and didn't jump. Offside needlessly a couple of times, however got better as the game went on. He'll come good, glad we've signed him.

Wood has a great touch shown at Watford. You lot want every player to be like Freddie Sears (I like him too don't get me wrong) but why is everyone giving wood a hard time. Better than many former strikers with the ba at his feet. I for one have been impressed with both
