Hunt On Course for Early Return
Friday, 27th Mar 2015 14:17

Striker Noel Hunt says he’s making good progress as he recovers from his medial knee ligament injury and thinks he'll be fit before the end of the season. The 32-year-old had seemed set to miss the rest of the campaign having been stretchered off after falling awkwardly in the closing stages of the 2-1 win at Fulham last month.

Hunt is currently back in his home town Waterford with the squad having been given four days off by manager Mick McCarthy.

Speaking to local radio station WLRfm he said: “I really thought I would be out of action for at least three months but I am back cycling at the moment and I think I will be fit for the tail end of the season.

“I am feeling stronger every day and I am happy with the way things are going. I would love to be playing now, especially following the victories against Bolton and Watford.”

Hunt, who was promoting a fundraising cycle ride for local GAA club Clonea-Power along with legendary Irish cyclist Sean Kelly, is hopeful that the Blues can still make the automatic promotion places.

“If we can beat Bournemouth on Good Friday I believe we could make the top two,” he added.

“There are a lot of twists and turns to come yet and with most of the top teams playing each other and we will be right there on the last day of the season.

“The Bournemouth match is massive, we know that but now that the confidence is back following the last minute win over Watford the lads are more than capable of beating them.”

by the time he's back and fit it will be time for him to be either;
1) Released, as we won promotion
2) given another year, as we're still in the vacuum of the Championship

The answer will be revealed in due course.

Quite a squad we now have for the final run in. With new players coming in, others back or almost back from injury and a couple on loan with 24 hour recall, we look to be well covered. If we don't make the playoffs, we can't blame it on Marcus Evans being too tight with the budget.

Goalkeeper:
Bialkowski
Gerken
Kenny
Crowe (on loan)

Right Back
Chambers (or centre half)
Parr
Hewitt

Centre Half
Berra
Smith
Clarke

Left Back
Mings (2 match ban)
Fryers

Right Midfield
Anderson
Connolly
Ambrose (injury)

Centre Midfield
Skuse
Bru
Bishop
Williams
Chaplow
Hyam (injury)

Left Midfield
Tabb
S Hunt
Henshall
Stewart (on loan)

Centre Forward/Striker
Murphy
Sears
McGoldrick (injury)
Wood
Varney
N Hunt (injury)

He didn't appear to be hobbling much in McGinty's on St Paddy's night.

I would add that Parr is either right back left back ,right midfield or left midfield. And yes Bournmouth game is massive ,if we can win that then fantastic ,if we draw that then a few other sides at the top will be happy , but if we lose we could easily be back to 8th ,incredible really. Both sides know its a huge game ,in fact its probably season defining. I expect it to be a nervy draw..

Just looked at Bourmouths stats , they have scored more goals from outside the box , from inside the 6 yard box ,from set pieces both direct and indirect than any other championship side , they have also won more penalties , you have to wonder where their weakness is. My gut says we win , my head says we draw. My arse says we lose..

@bluefeast - However, it's worth looking at their away form against sides currently in the top six: P4 W0 D3 L1. In fact, they've only won twice, from nine games, against the present top six all season.
