Gerken Returns to Action for U21s
Monday, 30th Mar 2015 11:45

Keeper Dean Gerken will be back in action this evening when Town’s U21s face Coventry City at Portman Road (KO 7pm).

Gerken, 29, was knocked unconscious in the early stages of the 4-1 defeat at Middlesbrough and was subsequently left out of the squads for the back-to-back 1-0 victories over Bolton and Watford.

Also involved against the Sky Blues, whose first-team is now managed by ex-Blues coach and skipper Tony Mowbray, will be Elliott Hewitt, who was recalled from his loan at Colchester last week, Dylan Connolly, Matt Clarke, Alex Henshall and Kundai Benyu.

Entry is free for season ticket holders, otherwise prices are £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.

Mark Kennedy’s team are currently eighth in the Professional Development League 2 South table.

Does no place for McGoldrick mean he isn't close to fitness and won't be involved this coming weekend?

No Jonny Williams? Thought this sort of game would be great to get his match fitness back.

Yes Vic, that does seem a bit strange as does the continued absence of David McGoldrick.

Vic

What I thought was just another rumour doing the rounds a few weeks ago, is starting to sound as though it may well have some substance; "A deal was done when Wood came here on loan from Leicester e.g. we got Wood FOC until the end of the season, if we are satisfied with Wood performance we offer him a new contract, then Leicester give us a big bag of cash and take McG" . Like I said before, I hope this is just a rumour but, the longer this state of affairs continues the rumours (hopefully that's what they are) will continue.

Good to see Gerken fit after a nasty injury. I am also curious as to the whereabouts of McG. A couple of weeks ago MC said that he was back training, but now it's gone quiet again. An update from the club would be helpful.

Keep Gerken in the under 21's until he learns to come and get a ball and give a back 4 confidence in him, re the didz rumour my next door neighbours cat who has a friend in outer Mongolia who has his finger on the pulse of all what's happening in English football has informed him that didz has signed a pre contract agreement to move over there and start up a national x1 with a view to being a force in international football within 2 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought I'd go along tonight to form my own opinions on players in U21's. I'm glad I went it confirmed what I had thought for a while. Hewitt will not be played in the right back spot. Not good enough, lets players cross for fun. One cross they scored from. When he ventures upfield he can't cross. Connoly I thought was a speedy skillful winger. He was played upfront for most of the game and had to feed off scraps. I was not impressed with him either on this showing. He will also have to watch his tackles as he could get sent off for being a bit too zealous. Henshall, never in a million years good enough. He's lucky to be in the under 21 team. When the lad McDonald came on he did shine a bit but the service from a poor midfield was not good, infact it was terrible. Hammond look to do the simple things well and looked strong. All in all we were outplayed all over the pitch by Coventry, who had players strong on the ball with a bit of skill. We didn't. Nobody in this team is putting any pressure on the 1st team, which to my mind is worrying.
