Parr Back for Blackpool But Connolly Joins Sidelined
Friday, 10th Apr 2015 14:23

Full-back or midfielder Jonny Parr is available for tomorrow's home game against now-relegated Blackpool, having recovered from his hamstring injury but young winger Dylan Connolly has joined those on the sidelines having picked up an ankle problem in the U21s on Tuesday. McCarthy has also reiterated that there is "nothing sinister" regarding David McGoldrick's continued absence.

“No fresh injuries amongst those who have been playing, thankfully,” manager Mick McCarthy said. “Dylan Connolly got a knock in the U21s, he was excellent in that, so he won’t be in the squad.

“But Jonny Parr’s back and everybody else is still the same. Didz is not fit. Darren Ambrose isn’t fit, although he’ll do some rehab today, Luke Hyam, Noel Hunt, Kevin Bru are all still injured.”

McCarthy says it’s increasingly unlikely that McGoldrick, who continues to be frustrated by a thigh problem, and Hyam, who suffered a knee injury in the FA Cup replay against Southampton and then last week a setback in his recovery, will feature again before the end of the regular season.

“Doubtful actually,” he admitted. “Didzy’s been coming back and he keeps coming back to a point in his training, then he’s missing for another week so his rehab keeps getting put further and further back.

“I’ve said to Luke Hyam, just leave it and if we end up in the play-offs [there might be a chance], and who knows then, it could extend to that.

“But you don’t want to be in here all close season because he’s had a tough time with the injury, so he wants to be fit when he leaves and then he can come back fighting front.

“Kevin Bru [calf] will be fit, Darren Ambrose [hamstring], he’s having some rehab, but there are maybe two or three we might not see.

“And, of course, the season’s ebbing away pretty quickly now, there’s less and less time for them to get fit.”

He says there is nothing more than the injury to McGoldrick’s situation with some fans having put two and two together and come up with alternative scenarios regarding the striker - a £7 million target of Premier League Leicester in the summer - during his now two-month spell on the sidelines.

“I can’t help that, how people count and whether they can add up or not I don’t know,” McCarthy added. “There’s nothing sinister about Didzy at all.

“Didzy’s desperate to play. You should see the look on his face today. I’ve said ‘Are you OK?’ and he’s said ‘No’. I’ve said ‘Are you OK, your injury’s different, how are you? How are you in yourself?’.

“When you’re injured it’s an awful feeling. He wants to play. In answer to all those questions, yes, of course he is going to be here [next season] - ‘Mick McCarthy confirms David McGoldrick will be here next season… Good luck!’.”

Left-back Tyrone Mings is back from his two-match ban and will start.

I know I made that team, but I do like it!!! :-)
4 in midfield, attacking full backs, height and pace in attack, and a mixture of creativity, skill, workrate and defensive awareness in midfield!!

I'd happily pay to watch that team! ;-)

Far more to the McGoldrick issue than meets the eye. The biggest hint being , are you alright are you alright in yourself. @ plus 2 equals 4 ,but in this instance read between the lines or actually read the lines as I've quoted above and you will get the conclusion referred to a few times. Well lets hope he is here next season ,and lets hope he is ok in himself and recovered……….

Parr at RB when it was needed in Jan and Feb would have stemmed our rotten 2015 form. All a bit late now.

Hope Parr is still around next season as he has been treated poorly.

By the way anyone who has left Smith out of a Mick line-up really needs a reality check. If it didn't happen in Jan and Feb when he was woeful, it wont happen now when he is starting to play better.

Good news Parr is now available to play...let's hope Mick plays him in his correct position and that's as a full back not in midfield.

Some of the McGoldrick "conpiracy theories are garbabge". The guy is injury-prone for gods sake. Don't know why some fans like to create something out of nothing. Why was he on the bench against Bournemouth then?

Will be good to have Parr back in the squad. His versatility can really help a change of system mid game

Smith and Chambers playing outside of their absolute best positions is why we look so imbalanced ,smith can only bring the ball back inside and chambers can only clear long. How or why that has not been addressed is tragic as its been our downfall since game January. We are sussed out ,at this level of the game opponents are meticulous , so if we can't out harass and work over a side they beat us or put another way we can't beat them and draw. Add into that two big guys upfront and you are telling the rest of the side to lump it ,which is why we do that more often than not ,i.e. I'm the manager i have no faith in your ability on the ball ,so get rid and pump it up to Murphy or as vs Huddersfield Murphy and Wood. The manager needs to show faith in his players ball ability ,they will all be far more technically gifted and comfortable than they show on a match day. Thats the managers fault , it comes from him.

I am a big fan of MM but his stubbornness to keep playing Chambers at full back is frustrating. All our opponents pin point our right back as the weakness and indeed Smith on his right foot in the centre of the back four. As a post above has stated it is doubtful Smith will be left out now but it is at our peril with two players in the back four playing out of position. To me this predicament is so elementary to put right and it has gone on far too long as recent results reflect. RickW I can't see Williams starting as the guy is nowhere near up to speed. Only my opinion but think he will be on the bench. Ipswich 121 love your team but we know Tabb will play. A crucial match tomorrow and Town beware as Blackpool will play with freedom and despite there predicament have some decent players. Fingers crossed.

Would anyone advocate dropping Murphy to the bench? Just thinking out loud, but a Varney Sears top two? I think with all that he has done he obviously deserves his place but not many goals of late....

Blackpool is 100% a must win game. And we will win! Like that team Rick!

All of this nonsense from everyone about David McGoldrick is daft. If anything the chap is injury prone rather than having some sinister desire to move in the summer or a falling out with McCarthy.

Great news about Parr though, if fit he should start. Class player.

Micks Team for Blackpool

Bialkowski
RB Chambers CD Smith CD Berra LB Mings
RM Anderson CM Skuse CM Chaplow LM Tabb
Str Woods. Str Murphy

Sears, Williams, Varney to come on during game.

Tactics : Get the ball to Chambers or Berra and hoof, hoof, hoof. Midfields job is to stop the opposition playing football and to win the ball back after the hoof. Strikers need to stay up so as to be ready for the huge punts upfield. it's going to be tough for the strikers so ideally both will come off at some point to rest. Chaplows job will be to cancel out that Costa Rican Midfielder they have and make sure he stays in defensive midfield rather than attacking midfield. Smith needs to stay firmly on Delfuenso and make sure that he doesn't add to his goal tally. Could be a hard game as many of the Blackpool team are now playing for their individual futures and have nothing to lose as a team.

Heeeere's Jonny!......COYB.

Seriously agree with the views about McGoldrick - if aspires to premiership football any hint of play-acting on his part could damage his chances.

Must win game. No excuse but to play attacking football from the off. No point sitting back if in front. I'm expecting a very attack minded selection.
