Fantastic record and I am constantly telling/reminding other fans of it-----makes me very proud and especially when you look at the opposition we have played.

In that period we Played in all 3 major European competitions and against the best teams in around. It is one to be proud of and remarkable to think it started with Sir alf in the sixties and went right through Bobby robson reign. Lets hope mick can add to it soon.

Fantastic Record ...but I do not quite understand ...Report states PSG beat the record so how come Blues still retain it ?
Are we talking about the number of games , or the period which for Ipswich is over 40 years ?

Reading more carefully , it is still the longest existing unbeaten streak , but PSG actually have a longer run which has now ended !

@ChrisR - Our record is for the longest current unbeaten streak, not the longest unbeaten streak that has been ended. So PSG held the record until last night, and it reverted back to us.

This is something the Budgie fans will never understand.

The home unbeaten record in major European competition is one of which the club and all Town fans can be justly proud. So many times, the strong home performances came in the first leg, setting us up for the more difficult trips to Europe, and coincided with some of the longest runs, including the season we went all the way.

Saw the thread on the forum, while our run is something we should be very proud of, claiming "longest *still ongoing* undefeated home streak in Europe" seems a touch desperate.

It doesn't matter what PSG, real, barca etc do with streaks. The simple fact is we have NEVER lost at home in Europe. Something these giants can never EVER claim. We are Ipswich and we are massive.

Why should,nt we be proud of an unbeaten run in Europe i think an unbeaten run of games in any competition is pretty good in any bodies book surely history is history and cannot be taken away not bad for a relatively small club,

I was there when we beat Floriana in 1962; the friend I was with commented that we should have brought a cribbage board with us to keep score.

I think its safe to say that our record will stand for a very, very long time. Yes we had a fantastic run back then, and did reasonably well in the Euorpa league 15 years ago, but 31 European Games in 50 years isn't exactly something to get the open top bus out for . . . . . .

Those were definitely the days. Just wish I was born 30 years sooner to see them!

There may be some who argue against " living in the past", but what a past it was. European nights in a relatively small English market town hosting and beating some of the best sides from Italy, Spain, Holland and France. A team spirit that was second to none and a very small squad provided a succession of mouthwatering memorable occasions.
Nine seasons out of ten in Europe which in today's terms equated to Champions League Qualification.
Yes of course times have changed,foreign ownership, sky money, Sepp Blatter ( ugh) but nothing can ever erase just what a remarkable history Ipswich Town Football Club has and it's younger supporters as well as those of us of a certain age should always be proud.

Every time I pick up a current programme and see our honours I am reminded that the past will be forever in the present. That is what the budgies can not stand.

Not being negative, but not sure we can claim this one.

PSG could of gone 200+ games unbeaten and then get beat and we would still be claiming our 'unbeaten home record' for 31 games - showing off the fact we've not played in a European competition for years.

The only way this could ever be beaten now is if a big team suddenly goes into free fall off of the back of a good run.

Safe to safe I think this record will remain intact for a good 20+ years yet!

I was fortunate enough to have been at Portman Road to witness those wonderful European nights in the 60,s 70,s and 80,s, games I will never forget. My favorate song from the crowd was IT,S JUST LIKE WATCHING BRAZIL.

Must not forget that as well as the two England Managers were also in Europe twice under GB.Once for ending up 5th in Prem,and the following season even though by now Town had been relegated,we had qualified for UEFA cup by winning the Fair Play League in that relegation season.
Happy days but lets look to the future and cheer the lads on to a play off place,and perhaps more !!!

You have to know your history to understand your club fully. And success in the past is something to be proud of.
Having never lost a tie in the European competitions at Portman Road is something to be proud of. Winning the league, the FA-cup and the UEFA-cup is too. Having had two managers going on to lead England, one to lead Scotland and now one who has lead Ireland is also something to be proud of. Having had one of the best teams in Europe with internationals in every position apart from goal - which I never understood why Paul Cooper wasn't capped - is something to be proud of.
I can not go to Portman Road as often as I would like to, being a Swede and having lived in Sweden all my life but I follow Ipswich as closely as I can. And I am, have always been and will always be proud of being an Ipswichsupporter since the early 70's when I first started understanding football and I am glad to have been around to "live" the history of the club.

Wonderful, wonderful days indeed. Was there for both legs of the Semi final against Cologne and the Final against AZ Alkmaar. We're unlikely to see the likes of it again. What ever would the "engine room" of Muhren, Thijssen and Wark be worth in todays market? But a good motto would be "Be proud of the past, look forward to the future, but live for the present! So get at those Wolves!

What a proud record and great history our club has. Pleased to say I never missed one of those great nights in Europe.
The great Sir Alf started it all with a team costing only 12k for Dougie Moran and winning the league even in those days Man utd, Everton and Arsenal were spending big money but they could not stop the mighty Town.
In Sir Bobs days I think playing so many games in Europe did stop us winning more league titles as we never had very big squads and in them days we also had long cup runs nearly every season and there wasn't penalty shoot in cup replays you keep replaying until you got a result.
A lot of people don't appreciate just how good our team of the early 1980's were, I know I am biased but I think that was one of the best club sides this country has ever seen.
So COYB lets win our last 3 games and get us back to where we belong.

It's amazing how people can find negatives out of anything. This is just a small stat which contributes hugely to our proud history.

What heady heady days they were - when teams won on pure merit, passion and good management not on a foreign owner spending millions to become the best.
