Ticket Sales at 22,500 for Game "as Big as They Come"
Wednesday, 22nd Apr 2015 19:38

Town have so far sold around 22,500 tickets for Saturday’s crucial final home game of the Championship season against Nottingham Forest, a match which owner Marcus Evans believes is "as big as they come".

The sixth-placed Blues could seal their spot in the play-offs depending on their result against Forest and how Brentford and Wolves in seventh and eighth fare in their games at Reading and Wigan respectively. Tickets for Saturday’s match are available from ITFC Direct.

Portman Road’s highest league attendance of the season was the 26,157 who watched the 3-0 home victory over Charlton in December, while 27,933 were at the 1-0 FA Cup replay defeat to Southampton in January.

Writing in a column in Saturday's matchday programme, owner Evans praised the club's support during the Blues' best season since his 2007 takeover.

“Another year of progress doesn’t really do justice to this season’s performance, but we have come to expect so much more from our team week in, week out that it’s worth reminding ourselves of just how far we have moved forward over the last two years," he writes.

“Saturday’s game is as big as they come, hopefully to be followed by some even bigger ones! Let’s cheer the boys over the line.

“A big thanks to all of you for your wonderful support this season and for helping make Portman Road a fortress, with only three defeats in 22 Championship matches, a record that is equal to any club in the division.

“I know from talking with the players how big an influence your support has been at critical times in matches. Your backing, aligned with an increase in season ticket sales for next year, is a huge positive for the club.”

Town are advising fans wanting to go to the final day game at Blackburn on Saturday 2nd May to buy their tickets soon with around 1,250 seats already sold.

Thursday lunchtime update:

Meanwhile, the Blues’ U21s are in action for the second time this week on Thursday morning when they face Swansea in a rearranged game at their Landore training ground (KO 11am). The match was postponed due to a frozen pitch in January with the Town squad having already made the trip to Wales.

The Blues are unlikely to include many if any senior players ahead of Saturday’s vital first-team game.

Heh - "as big as they come"? I think if we make the playoffs, the next home game will be far bigger!!

...and then the next at Wembley - so not quite sure what ME is going on about.

His comment, as reported, is factually correct.

The Nottingham Forest game is a definite match. It does have enormous potential, consequences.
So it is " as big as they come"( at this moment in time)

The play offs are not definite matches...yet
But if they do , as ME is reported as having said, they would be even bigger ones.

As a season ticket holder I would have had no objection if ME had also said the first 5,000 who want tickets tomorrow for Saturdays match can have then for a tenner each...
We want no empty seats or silent voices this Saturday!

Another sign that tickets prices are too high as we should be at the 27/28000 mark. The Charlton game was over Christmas and part of a promotion I believe. Great that we will have a big crowd but where have they been all season?

1 point will be enough in my honest opinion. COYB!

Should be a great atmosphere on Saturday.
Let's roar our team on to the three points.
Let's do whatever it takes to get to and win at Wembley.
Let's give ME the Premier League club that he deserves.

Keep encouraging everyone to go, no matter how many turn up in the end lets have Portman Road rocking on Saturday. Already selling 1,250 for Blackburn is impressive, whatever the Forest result that is set to be huge too, would be great to take a few thousand

Simply get behind the team all the wayand make loads of noise throughout the whole 90 minutes....intimidate the Forest team..and that might just be enough! :)

Got this funny feeling destiny will make us play Norwich in the very near future. Now that is a game as big as 1981. Can you even imagine the build up to that. I would want to win that more than anything on this earth....but now to pt my sensible hat on...can we??? No fan replies....honest replies

Forest haven't won a league game since March 18th and have nothing to play for. It's there for the taking.

It dont matter what the crowd is as long as everyone makes noise and we win. COYB

I love the way some people read about 3 words and then comment, without reading or perhaps understanding what ME is saying. Looking forward to a fantastic game and atmosphere on Saturday, COYB lets reward the fans for their loyalty and patience this season and MM /TC for giving us a team to be proud of

@blueboy, IF we make play offs, I fully expect you, my friend, to go a little silly.....please!

Tractor Boy Olly. Please don't assume that because other fans can't for some reason or another attend each game, that they are any less passionate than yourself. Finances and Location play a great part in some fans attendances. Just saying. COTB.

Biggest game since that West ham game over 10 years ago, still remember the agony of the play offs but also the joy of 1999. No feeling like going up through the them in my opinion, so if we get there....but first Saturday, we must go for it and play creatively. No passing around the back 4 and hoofing it up. No jitters in midfield. The players should be made to watch the 4-1 win at home to Leeds on repeat till kick off!!!

As a club we have a habit of lossing to teams on a a bad run. Brighton, Rotherham & Huddersfield for example.
However i look forward to Saturday & if we meet the Budgies in a play off semi then whats the odds on us beating them over the 2 legs. They will so confident , but this will be cup knock out football

Drop the prices all round. Encourage the next generation of yoofs by means of family offers etc. We are a relatively small club, but we have shown before we can get crowds of 25,000+ if the conditions are right. By the way, Notts F. is by no means easy. I fear only a draw and a nail-biting last Saturday away to Blackburn. Please prove me wrong! COYB!

That's not as much as I thought we'd get for such a big game. Arguably our biggest since the play offs 10 years ago. We should lower the ticket prices for it but I'm sure there would soon be 25,000 season ticket applicants happy to pay up if we got promoted!

Charlton was full price........ decent effort.

Don't agree wth the club charging an extra £2.50 per ticket on the day of the game though, that wants looking into!
