Mings Keen to Cut Out the Cards
Friday, 24th Apr 2015 06:00

Tyrone Mings has reflected on his first full season as a Town regular and admitted he needs to improve his disciplinary record.

Mings has collected 11 bookings in his 41 appearances so far this season, one of the worst records in the Championship, and will be working to improve it next season.

He said: “I think four or five of them came in the first two months of the season and maybe could be put down to excitement.

“It’s not really something I’ve had to think about, they just keep totting up! Maybe I’ll think about it more if we are in the play-offs.

“It’s certainly something I’d like to improve on next season. I’ve picked up some silly yellow cards for giving the ref some backchat and things like that, a little bit pointless and maybe down to naivety on my part.”

But the left-back, who inherited the role vacated by Aaron Cresswell upon his departure to West Ham last summer, said: “I think I have learned a lot about my own game, the Championship and what it takes to win games, things like that, in the past 12 months or so.

“In terms of my own performance level I think it has come on but obviously I still have things to work on. But maybe you should be asking the manager about that.”

Mings, who was signed from non-league Chippenham on the recommendation of former Town defender and youth coach Russell Osman, has been the subject of often-intense transfer speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal apparently leading the chase for his signature.

He added: “I never really think about it, well certainly a lot less than I did in January or December when it was coming up to the transfer window.

“It was a little bit relentless back then, virtually every day. I’ve got plenty to focus on at the moment — there’s a big job to finish here.

“Around Christmas it was a bit of a tough period with everything that was going on and I found it mentally draining, but I’ve come through it and enjoyed every minute of it — the ups, the downs, the praise, the criticism, it’s been a good first full season I think.

“With the team’s performance and the team’s league position I couldn’t have wished for a better first full season.

“There’s always going to be criticism. You might think you’ve played well but it could be someone else’s idea of a bad performance, which is just part and parcel of the game. I’ve enjoyed it and long may it continue.”

Perhaps you could quite easily cut out a few of the very petulant yellow cards you've been awarded this season! If you're going to get booked make sure it's worthwile like Skuse on a few occasions.

A solid first season for Mings id say. Very good before Xmas but has dropped off a little but given that has happened to the whole squad I don't blame him.

Stick hear Tyrone and work as hard as you clearly have and good things will come to you throughout your career my man.
