Wood Recalled By Leicester
Saturday, 25th Apr 2015 11:53

Loan striker Chris Wood has been recalled by his parent club Leicester City. The New Zealand international had been due to remain with the Blues until the end of the season, including the play-offs if Town finish in the top six.

The 23-year-old returns to the Foxes as cover for David Nugent, who has suffered a calf injury.

Wood made three starts and five sub appearances for Town without scoring.

Speaking yesterday, manager Mick McCarthy said Noel Hunt will play in the U21s at Cardiff on Monday with a view to being in the squad at Blackburn next Saturday, while David McGoldrick could be back for the play-offs if Town are involved.

He hasn't been great but that now leaves us very light up top. If hunt and Mcgoldrick aren't fit in time we won't have a single striker on the bench for Blackburn. Even more reason to make sure we win today's game

Shame it didn't work out, he's a good player at this level but obviously we never saw the best of him.

Typical in that he showed a bit of promise in the last ten mins against Wolves that he now goes back, bad luck for fantasy punt on Nugent as well.

How are we going to be able to cope without him?

Disappointing news especially as even if McGoldrick is fit for the play-offs if we make them, he's going to be very rusty with little chance to get truly match fit.

Although Wood hasn't set Portman Rd alight, I believe having him till end of season would have been beneficial to club. The lad had ample experience as this level and above, and with possible big games coming up, he may have contributed. As already mentioned, it now leaves us light in numbers up top.

Unfortunately didn't really work out for him, lets hope Varney is back fully fit then! Maybe give Marriott a recall from Col U, no better player to throw on if we need an important goal! COYB

What is this fetish about Marriot. He didn't make it at Gillingham. He hasn't made it at Colchester. Why in God's name do you think he will walk into our team and be a big hit?

Was short of match fitness but ironically looked as sharp as I had seen in his last run out last week Typical Nugent !! still putting the boot in
Wood is a good player , but with Murph and Freddie up top lets make put it out of sight today !!
Win by three goals and will make it harder for Brentford !!

....... people still keep mentioning McGoldrick - I doubt VERY much if we will see him anymore this season, or at any time in the future, in an ITFC shirt.

That's if he has his way.

Agree Blueboy think that ship may have sailed - shame , but Murph and Sears look good and with Bru back in feel we are much better at home - early goal and then run riot ... !! Murph wants 30 goals!

So we pay 10k per week plus the loan fee in order to get him fit ,he shows the 1st bit of sharpness vs wolves and gets called back ,you have to question if by signing an unfit player i.e. not ready for 90 mins of football why on earth did we refuse the recall terms. Not good as we cannot sign cover , you can just guess Murphy will now get injured and be unable to play , we miss the play offs and what do we think then , all a bit annoying. Ive been no fan of wood ,however he showed his best fitness in our last game ,Murphy could of been rested and fresh for blackburn had we secured play off spot today ,so this week woods and williams return ,i guess the motto is never sign a player who's surname starts with a W

First Williams and now Wood.

Presumably we have McDonnell now anyway. I assume he can play from May 1st? Will seem like a new signing....

Sensational in training apparently. Easily the best of the Irish youngsters (no disrespect to Connolly).

hhmmm...another player lighter, doesn't bode well IF we get in the play-offs.

I can't understand why so many people were so harsh on Wood. He is a very good Championship player that was coming back from Injury, with the hope that his quality might just get us something in the last 10 minutes of a game initially & when his match fitness improved could be a real asset should we make the playoffs. He also offer strong cover for Murph, should he get injured - a wise addition by an experienced manager, trying to cover as many potential problems as possible.
As others have said, he had started to show his worth in the Wolves game & would have been a great asset going into the playoffs (when/if). An injury to Murphy now would be a disaster for us, as I could see an improving Wood & Sears making a decent partnership, if called upon. Be careful what you wish for.

Pettit/Scunny - Marriott not even given a place on the bench by Colchester today. More chance of McQueen getting an appearance at Blackburn than Marriott.

Hunt on one leg would be a better bet than Marriott
