Hunt Expected to Return for U21s
Monday, 27th Apr 2015 11:13

Striker Noel Hunt is expected to return to action following his knee injury when Town’s U21s face Cardiff in their final Professional Development League Two South fixture of the season at the Cardiff City Stadium this evening (KO 7pm).

The Irishman had been expected to miss the rest of the season having fallen awkwardly in the 2-1 win at Fulham in February.

Manager Mick McCarthy puts his speedy return to fitness down to hard graft: “He’s recovered fairly quickly but it’s only Lazarus-like because of the work he’s put in.

“He’s been eating the work up to get back, he’s a real specimen. He’s fantastic, remarkable.

"He’s trained fully today [Friday], trained yesterday and he’ll play on Monday in the U21s down at Cardiff with a view that he’ll be available for us at Blackburn because Reggie [Luke Varney] can’t be involved because it’s his parent club. It’ll be great to have him back if we’re in the play-offs - fresh players.”

Irish U21 international winger Dylan Connolly could also be involved against the Bluebirds having returned to training following his ankle injury.

We will need at least Varney and 1 of Hunt/McGoldrick to be fit for the play offs (yes I'm feeling optimistic) to give us sufficient options. Ambrose could also play off a striker/s.

Good news. Not perhaps the best idea to make too many changes at this stage of the season but should we make the play-offs (and to be honest I cant see us not making it now although with us you never know what fate might throw up) I think maybe mixing it up a bit could work in our favor. Get Noel, Ambrose and a few other fringe players more invloved in these games. It may throw off the game plan of the opposition. If we go a bit "samey" they will just try to mark Murph and Sears out the game and we may struggle. Although its a risk vs reward type situation as the more permanent 11 players know their jobs and whta is required of them so well so changes may disrupt that. Over to you Mick and TC. I know that they will, as will the players, give it a good go and if its our year then bring it on, but if not, lets take heart from the fact that things are moving upward for us.
