Skuse Nominated for Championship Player of the Month
Thursday, 30th Apr 2015 09:00

Midfielder Cole Skuse has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award for April.

The 28-year-old, who netted his first Blues goal during the 3-1 victory over Cardiff, is up against Derby’s Tom Ince, Benik Afobe of Wolves and Watford’s Adlene Guedioura for the gong.

Earlier in the season, Tyrone Mings won the award for September - when boss Mick McCarthy was also named Manager of the Month - and Daryl Murphy for December. This month's winner will be announced at 6am on Friday morning.

At Tuesday’s Town End of Season Dinner, Skuse picked up the John Kerridge Memorial Trophy for most improved player, manager McCarthy having been the man deciding the destination of that award, with his strike against the Bluebirds named the Goal of the Season.

Speaking earlier in the month, McCarthy said all sides require a steadying midfield influence such as Skuse: “I believe every team needs one and I think most have.

“Manchester United are at their best if it’s Michael Carrick who’s the one doing the sitting, the holding, the fetching, the carrying, the organising, the defending.

“And, of course, one of the best ones was Didier Deschamps, 'the water carrier', as Cantona called him, which I’m not sure whether is a derogatory term or a complimentary one.

“I’d prefer it to be a complimentary one because they’re the ones who’ll be in your team, week in, week out, day in, day out, penned in, certainties and then some of the others bring the flair to it.

"That comes in fits and starts but consistency is the key to any successful team.”

Sorry but two of the players nominated aren't even championship players ?? , skuse should win this hands down, no dout it will go to the one who's scored the most because that's what normally happens

As good as Skuse's goal was, Tabb's header is our goal of the season.

Skuse has been superb recently though, good luck with the award!

I think most recognise the contribution Skuse has made of late, absolutely brilliant and has really stood out. I've certainly noticed his contribution more of late and I've never been a critic anyway.

Not been one of his biggest fans since he's been here but have to say he's played pretty well over the last month or so, so well done and deservedly nominated.

Skuse has been brilliant for us this season and it was a terrific strike and also got an assist in that game too, but I'm pretty sure Watford have been on sky about 4 times this month and Guedioura has been man of the match in all of them for me. He's been the difference between them and everyone else and managed to get them over the line. As a town fan obviously I want skuse to win it, just saying as a neutral Guedioura stands out.

Skuse's two seasons at the club have been completely contrasting.

When he joined at the start of last season, people were heralding him as the new Matt Holland, until his form dipped and he became a scapegoat for bad results by the end.

This season, people were still lambasting him as being a weak link in the team at the start of the campaign, mostly because of his perceived lack of creativity. But, now people have come to recognise what he brings to the team, mostly a firm structure in the middle.

Those few games he missed really shone a light on how important he is to our team. Whatever league we find ourselves in next season, I fully expect Skuse to be one of the first names on the team sheet.
