Tabb and Hunt Return for Blackburn Trip
Thursday, 30th Apr 2015 14:04

Jay Tabb and Noel Hunt will be back in the Town squad travelling to Blackburn for Saturday’s crucial final game of the season, while Richard Chaplow is expected to return to training tomorrow and could also be involved. Loanee Luke Varney is unavailable against his parent club.

Tabb missed last week’s 2-1 home victory against Nottingham Forest as he was ill and Chaplow suffered a groin injury in training, while Hunt had been expected to miss the rest of the season with the knee injury he sustained at Fulham in February.

“Richard Chaplow didn’t train today but I’d expect him to train tomorrow though and to have a chance to be involved,” manager Mick McCarthy said. “Tabby’s fine, Noel Hunt is fine, a remarkable recovery he’s had.”

The Blues boss had praise for the impact his second-half subs made during the Forest game, including Varney, who he is disappointed to be without this weekend.

“The subs were excellent,” he said. “Ando’s played lots of games, Kevin Bru has as well and was only out because of an injury at Watford and he was outstanding that day.

“Luke Varney has been terrific since he walked through the door. Sadly we can’t use him, but that’s what subs are for, they’re not there to keep the bench warm and then come on and sulk because they’re not playing.

“That’s the reaction we all expect, it’s not the reaction we always get. But from our lads this season it’s been great.”

The fifth-placed Blues need a point at Ewood Park to secure a place in the play-offs for the first time in a decade while they could lose and still make it as long as the results in two of the games involving Derby, Brentford and Wolves go in their favour.

Looking forward to Saturday, I believe we will get the job done, but must be wary of their front men - per se they are s@#t at the back!

Given how many times we've come unstuck under MM going for just a point, and given Rhodes is there to wade in with the poetic last minute goal, this match fills me with utter dread! Ive got sweaty palms already and it's only Thursday!

This is Rhodes last chance to impress Gordan Strachen before the crunch game for Scotland v Ireland.
True also for Murphs & Berra!

It should be a really good game and an early goal for us could see in the driving seat.
I expect the lads to come out all guns blazing in the first 15 minutes

Hope we see Bru. He made a huge difference when he came on last Saturday.

The whole season rests on this one game. Anything less than a point and it's all over because Brentford will not fail at home to Wigan. I'll only enjoy the game on Saturday if we're about 5 nil up at half time & we know that's not going to happen! Probably be a Noel Hunt equaliser in the 5th minute of time added on. COYB

In years gone by, when we've found ourselves in the position Blackburn do, we've handed debuts to kids and played fringe players. Remember the Sheffield United game on the last day of the season? I think we handed Tom Eastman his debut and played him alongside, a then fairly inexperienced, Tommy Smith. We got it handed to us by the Blades. Please, Blackburn... do the same!

I remember Town v Blackburn in the last game of the old 2nd division we needed a point to be crowned champions over Q.P.R. Ray Crawford chased a high ball and one on one with the keeper rose like a salmon with a rocket up his rear end to nod in over the keepers hands(Adam Blacklaw if the old brain is still serving me!!) the game ended 1-1 and we were champs, so Mr Murphy emulate the legend that has praised you so much this season and put us in the play offs. come on you blues here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't renew Hunts deal. Also, we haven't missed Tabb when he hasn't played.

Bialowski
Chambers. Smith. Berra. Mings
Parr. Skuse. Bru
Bishop
Murphy. Sears

I would feel confident this line up would see us over that line.

Come on lads! Confident we can get something, yes the other teams have relatively easy games although anything can happen on the final day. Whatever happens we can be proud of the season we have had!

Real shame about Varney not being available. Has done really well since his loan move and I'm sure he would have been up for this in the same way Rhodes may be if you listen to all the reports?.
We know our defence will be tough to break down and Sears and Murph will always be a goal threat but I think the key to this game is a really strong midfield performance.. With a confident Skuse , I hope Tabb, Bru, Bishop and who ever makes the team have the games of their lives.
Could just make the fans weekend and you never know summer!!

Blue7579 I like the look of that line-up but fear that Mick's 'different class Tabby' will probably start.

Please order a dodgy curry for Blackburn's Friday night meal.
