Cresswell Three-Time West Ham Player of the Year
Thursday, 7th May 2015 09:04

Former Blue Aaron Cresswell was named the Hammer of the Year, Signing of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year at last night’s West Ham United Player Awards.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a terrific first season in the Premier League since moving from Portman Road to Upton Park last summer and is reportedly interesting Manchester City and Chelsea.

“It’s a privilege to win these awards,” Cresswell said after receiving the gongs at the event at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

“If someone had told me when I joined from Ipswich that I would have played every game and every minute up to now, I’d have snapped your hand off. To come here and collect these awards was a fantastic honour.”

Former Tranmere man Cresswell outlined how his July switch to the Hammers came about.

“I got a phone call from my agent and obviously West Ham was the main place I wanted to go, moving down the A12 from Ipswich to West Ham.

“When I told them I was going to West Ham, obviously my family were very proud. This year has gone very well for me personally and for the team.

“Sam [Allardyce] is a very similar sort of manager to Mick McCarthy, who I worked with at Ipswich and he has been fantastic with me this season, so I can’t thank him enough.”

The Blues received an initial £3.75 million for the Liverpudlian with the fee potentially rising to £7 million depending on top-ups likely to relate to appearances and probably international caps. Town have confirmed that the deal also included a sell-on clause, although the percentage has not been disclosed.

Not long before an England call up, me thinks! Well done Cressy.

Always rated Cressy and he seems a very level-headed man. Wish him luck and hope he does get to play for England.

Great player and a great lad - lucky enough to have met him and always got time for people - hope he goes all the way ! Sweet - now lets follow him to the 'promised land'!

Well done Cressy, we all know how good he is and its great that he is now proving it at the top level. Pure inspiration for his former team mates going into Saturday!

Fantastic player Cresswell is. Best player Jewell ever signed, great left foot if you watch West Ham just see how many wicked balls he whips in for them. 10 times the player Mings is both defensively and attacking

I remember having to defend Cresswell many times on the forum, when the subject of abuse and suggestions he wasn't very good, had to laugh at people really as he was head and shoulders the best player in the squad.......vindicated by his performances in the premier league and winning multiple awards at the highest level, I'm sure international caps will follow.

Great player and a good bloke, well done Aaron.....good luck to you, wish you were still here!!

A player who moves on from us to a Premier League club, and does so in such a dignified fashion, will always go with my blessing. Well done Aaron, and best of luck moving forward. I can't imagine West Ham would let him go for much less than £20 million, so in my books, that's a very nice cheque that will be winging its way to us in the post!

On a side note, Paul Jewell must really have a good eye for a left-back! Baines and Cresswell aren't too shabby, are they! Perhaps we should re-appoint Jewell as Chief Left-Back Scout!

Just think what we might have achieved this season with his cultured left foot deliveries in our side - and that is taking nothing away from Tyrone, who has been superb for the most part. Not forgetting it is Tys first full season in pro- football. He will get better.

Well deserved.

West Ham certainly got themselves a bargain there - hope we had a decent sell on clause.

The add-on for first international cap may well not be far away - at the Italy away game, most England fans were mystified that he wasn't there. And the full backs hardly covered themselves with glory that night.
I was always a Baines fan, but I think Cressy has surpassed him this season.

If anyone thinks Mings is anywhere near as good as Cresswell was for us you're utterly deluded

Cresswell did not become a Premier League class player overnight. It is still early days for Mings, and he clearly has a lot of promise (just as Cresswell did). There are obvious similarities between the two.

Good for him. We all knew he would do well.

This makes me think we sold him much too cheaply!

We should have gotten double the amount West Ham paid for him. They got the bargain of the century. Agreed that Mings is nowhere near as good.

We got £3 million for arguably the best defender in the premier league this season. Hmmm

I said at time I thought we sold him way to cheaply and it made our squad weaker but was shouted down that Mings was a better player and the money would be re invested .
Cressys extra class would have seen us promoted this year with his goals and assists .
How much did Shaw go to Utd for ?

Aaron had HEAPS of POTENTIAL when we sold him - and NO-ONE knew for sure that he would achieve in the Premier League.

To be fair - the deal we got at the time was the best offer, and as a club we could not stand in the player's way.

Had he still been in West Ham's reserves (totaly possible) then we would be saying what a good deal we got.

I agree that Mings will have to do a lot better to be a better player than Cressy - but knowing we had Ty who is pretty good at out level and with another heap of POTENTIAL - I think I still agree with what most of us actually said at the time - it was as good a bit of business as we could have done without a Crystal ball !

Let's not look back through different glasses to the ones we were all wearing at the time !

Every minute of the season again? This is becoming a habit.

Cracking player.

Does anybody (Phil?) know if the top up from international caps would only be paid if he is at West Ham at the time, or if it remains due if he were sold on before making his debut?
Very likely to get a run out in the coming months I would think, but could be a Man City player by then.
According to the reports, there is a potential £3.25m in top ups, which seems an unusually high amount where the initial fee is only slightly more. If he is sold in the summer it is unlikely that he'll have hit too many of the appearances milestones, notwithstanding his "every minute" record for West Ham this season.

Lets hope City offer them 25 million and we can have a juicy sell on

raycrawfordswig added 15:35 - May 7
Tranmere rovers pick up 20 percent of any sell on.

yorksblue added 16:12 - May 7
Why Tranmere? Surely they've already benefited from the sale to WHU.

TimmyH added 16:27 - May 7
I doubt he'll stay at West Ham much longer the way he's performing...hopefully as mentioned we can can get a good bunsen from the sell on (hopefully to City/Chelsea).
Wish we still had some one who can cross like he can...no one here at the moment with his left foot!
