McCarthy Issues Hands-Off Warning
Monday, 18th May 2015 19:04

Boss Mick McCarthy has issued a hands-off warning to clubs who might be interested in signing the Blues’ prize assets this summer. David McGoldrick, who has told McCarthy he wants to stay to prove a point following his injury problems, and Tyrone Mings were the subject of Premier League offers last season, while 27-goal Championship top scorer Daryl Murphy and Teddy Bishop have also been linked with top flight clubs.

“I had a discussion with [owner] Marcus [Evans] yesterday about the players that might be targets,” McCarthy told the club site.

“You are looking at Murph, with 27 goals this season. Didz is another. I had a word with him and he’s not looking to move. He wants to come back and get himself fit and show everyone what a good player he is again.

“He has been so disappointed with the injuries he has had over the last two seasons and feels he has a point to prove.

“I’ve spoken to Bish and Ty as well. I’ve pointed out to them that Cressy played 140 or so games here and another 100 or so at Tranmere before he moved to West Ham.

“He was ready to make that move. He had done his time and he has gone there and won every player of the year award going. He would not have done that if he had played 40 games here.

“So I’ve said to Bish and Ty, ‘You are staying here’. I want to progress. I don’t want to sell however much money is offered. I don’t want to lose our best players. I want young, fit and vibrant players to take us forward.”

McGoldrick, the subject of a £7 million Leicester City offer last August, is contracted until the summer of 2016, the Blues having activated an option for a further season earlier in the campaign, while Murphy - linked with Hull City in January - signed a new deal last July, which is also up in a year's time.

Mings, for whom Crystal Palace bid £3.5 million in August, put pen to paper on a contract until the end of June 2017 last September, while Bishop, like the Blues left-back tracked by Premier League sides all year, recently extended his contract until the summer of 2018 with Town having an option for a further season.

Elsewhere, Leeds United are reported to have joined Birmingham City in showing interest in former Blue Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, who was recently released by newly promoted Bristol City.

Well said Mick. We need to add quality to that midfield to progress though and although I hope you are right, I expect Evans will sell at least one, if not two of them.

No hands off warning for berra then ?

Big mistake on Mings : he is a total liability and if we could persuade anyone to take him off our hands, for any money at all, it would be of real benefit to the team.

‘‘I want young, fit and vibrant players to take us forward.”

I got a bit mardy seeing that Jay Tabb's been offered a new deal earlier, but this has evened me out. This is the exact approach we need to take into next season. If we can add a couple of young players with pace and creativity to the squad that we have in place already then we should be in with a great shout next season. McCarthy's right about Teddy and Ty too. They'd be mad to move on, we're a club on the up and they could both need another year or two to develop rather than be Man City reserves.

Its going to be a roundabout in the championship this summer , look out for forrest and shed wed having really good seasons ,bolton ,burnley , perhaps bristol city ,maybe Qpr ,fulham cardif etc etc ,hard league ,we need new blood and i suspect 3 or 4 players. Hyam needs a good season or he will be released ,carnage really.

Very pleased if these three very talented players are here at the end of the transfer window.
Bishop and Mings will continue to improve and McG again showed his undoubted talent in his brief appearance on Saturday.

Marvellous! Micks nose knows how to do it.

I guess Mick is trying to retain all of the current squad perhaps apart from a couple and that is good for continuity and club spirit but to push on we really do need Marcus to open his wallet and gamble.
It will no doubt be an extremely tough season and with the addition of maybe three strong players we could do it.
Without additions....if it was not good enough last season then it won't be good enough next season either.

Imagine a full season with a fully fit Mcgoldrick alongside Murphy and Sears!! Goals, goals, goals!!

Have I read that too literally, but nothing was said about Murphy's future or whether Mick's "had a word", it may be just how it's been reported but it switches immediately to Didz reaction and standpoint?. May just be looking too much at it.

Unfortunately McGoldrick needs to get himself back in the shop window. I expect him to comeback, get fit and leave next year when his contract runs out for nothing. Would like him to sign an extension for a year, perhaps he will as it would mean the club showing faith, but at the moment It is no surprise at all that he says he wants to stay and prove himself.

Great news!
Not only do we have a good squad, we have a strong spine with goal scoring ability up front. Wing options with pace, one or two ball playing, goal scoring midfielders and a full back option would be useful additions in my opinion. Also we'll need to develop more Academy players...am hearing encouraging comments about Dylan Connelly .
Looking forward to 2015-2016 already.

We don't need JET. We need Joniesta. Make it so.

All great news. MM is doing a fab job and Marcus Evans is showing exactly what we need from an owner. As for those who criticise Mings, he has only had one season playing at Championship level, has had no experience at lower league or even Conf levels, and is only going to get better and better. This lad has real talent, and might yet play at the highest level of the game.

I want all of them to stay, but I fear that this is the opening shot in negotiations

Hands up all those who, a few weeks ago, were saying that Dids was on his way, moved family back to the Midlands etc. etc?

Half the posts on here are unsubstantiated rubbish!

Surely persuading mcg to sign an extension to prove he wants to stay would be more proof than just his word I'm sure he will come good and then go for free

Mick seems very determined on this & really wants us going up next year, definite change to some of his comments about out players in previous windows. Hopefully the players all buy into this & ME too, although he doesn't strike me as an owner who will sell someone if Mick says no.
Can't wait for next season already!!

Good news if they do all stay. It would be fantastic to get Didz playing in behind Murf and Sears.
Still think a class left midfielder and right back must be summer signing priority

Well good news but I think Mick has summed it up when he has said didz wants to prove a point next season. I think that's exactly what he's gotta do. Was badly affected by injuries, which was a huge shame, but there was an air of frustration in his game at times last season, things didn't quite go for him at times and think he didn't like being over shadowed by Murphy. Good that he seems committed though. COYB

I want young, fit and vibrant players to take us forward.” Really Mick ???? Jay Tabb ???? You've lost the plot. Sell Mings take the so called £10 m value and incest in the squad. Mings was comfortably our worst player in the play off matches, cost us two goals at carrot road (Tabb the other one with his only touch)

Stop being stubborn Mick. Sell Minfs and go get 4 players to put us in the top two !!!
