Tabb a Course Celeb
Wednesday, 20th May 2015 19:33

Blues midfielder Jay Tabb was in golfing action at the BMW PGA Championship Celebrity Pro-Am at Wentworth this afternoon.

The 31-year-old, who Town stay was extended by a year earlier in the week, played alongside professional Marc Warren, Arsenal legend Ian Wright and his former Reading team-mate Ady Williams.

It’s the fourth time Tabb (pictured above playing last year) has played in the tournament and, speaking in February last year, he explained how he got involved: “It just so happens that the guy who organises it is a Reading fan and he got me in.

“I sent an email in with an enquiry and I was lucky it landed on his desk. You can’t buy your way in.”

He added: “It’s something I will remember forever. It was a bit nerve-racking and I was a lot more nervous than when I play football. I love my golf. There are 20-handicappers as well because it’s a bit of a fun event.

“I was shaking like a leaf before I teed off and I don’t know how I took the club back. I went on to the range at Wentworth beforehand and on one side of me I had Ian Poulter and on the other Sergio Garcia. It was terrifying, it really was.”

A host of stars from the worlds of sport and entertainment also took part in the annual precursor to the BMW PGA Championship.

Meanwhile, work has begun on the annual renovation and reseeding of the Portman Road pitch.

Elsewhere, ex-Town loanee Danny Simpson could be facing jail having been found guilty of throttling the mother of his child during a drunken argument.

Simpson, who is currently with Leicester City, was with the Blues late in the 2007/08 season, making seven starts and one sub appearance.

Here we go...don't worry about transfer activity this summer we'll have wall to wall coverage of how 'Tabby's' handicap is going - how the hell does he get to play in these tournaments? some of the pro golfers probably haven't a clue who he is.

To be fair, TimmyH, who is Marc Warren?

Tabby got there because he used to play for Reading and the guy who organises it is a Reading fan, nothing more, nothing less. It will be the same for Ady Williams.

Why do I get the feeling that headline has gone over most people's heads... honestly, Phil...!

And a very nice swing he has. Friendly and polite too - just like a Suffolk lad should be.

I imagine Sergio Garcia was also standing there shaking, thinking "oh my god I've got Jay Tab next to me!"

Best he sticks with playing golf. Not good enough to play in our starting eleven. If he us a natural starter next season we won't be going anywhere. Bizarre decision to keep him on.

Tabb most probably gave away the ball to his opponent and wondered where it had gone

Marc Warren = very good golfer, think he has won 3 or 4 times on European Tour and played in The Masters this year, certainly more on the up than Mr Tabb.

Stick to playing golf Tabb, sounds like you're better than average at that..

Even out of season you regular 'know better than Mick McCarthy's' won't give Tabb a break and he is entitled by contract to an extra year. Whatever his shortcomings, most of you wouldn't recognise a good player if you saw one and so I'm sure even the new signings will get a slating before you realise they can play
