Chesterfield Targeting Taylor
Friday, 5th Jun 2015 09:34

League One Chesterfield are reported to be targeting former Blues striker Paul Taylor.

Taylor is a free agent having settled his contract with Town in January, although the Blues kept hold of his registration until the end of the season to allow the 27-year-old to move out on loan and he ended the season with Blackburn, where he made two starts and three sub appearances.

Now the Derbyshire Times reports that Taylor is on new Spireites manager Dean Saunders’s wish list, although the striker’s wage requirements - he was on £10,000 a week at Town - may be beyond them.

Meanwhile, Reading are reported to be keen to sign released Hull City defender Paul McShane, who was linked with the Blues at the weekend.

According to GetReading, Royals manager Steve Clarke travelled to Dublin earlier in the week to talk to the defender, who is currently with the Ireland squad.

Elsewhere, Fulham are said to be leading the chase for former Rotherham midfielder Ben Pringle, who was linked with Town last week. Charlton, Leeds and Bolton are also believed to be amongst those interested.

Yh Chatueau but Bellamy was actually a good player.

Chesterfield, far to good for Paul Taylor. Frimley Green 3rds would be about right

McShane actually makes sense for Reading, given the number of young players from their youth system they want to progress. He could add some stability there, much as Paul Green did at Rotherham. Not sure how much money Reading would commit to after the Pogrebnyak fiasco.

So you know our targets then Wallingford? Did you know about Freddie at the beginning of January?

Couldn't really care less. The only piece of news surrounding Taylor that would make me smile is if he signed for Norwich. Would love to see him ruin their teamspirit and bleed them for unwarranted wages the way he did to us.

Excellent news. I see he's being targetted by a "big" club ( note his comment about Blackburn with regards to Town when he went there ), in League One. He's finally finding his level!

Wallingford, do you really think that MM & TC went away on (a well deserved) without identifying, checking & sounding out our targets? Have a bit of faith, this is not MM & TC's first go at management!

Who cares about Taylor? He has gone. A good amount of wages saved to enable a new player to come in. Lots of players have left this pre season, so much to be done to ensure we have a larger squad for next season.

He may well have "wage requirements" of 10k a week - but he's done nothing to justify that.

Think it's harsh of BlueandTruesince82 to say Frimley Green 3rds would be about right for Taylor. Big Geoff is a good striker for them and although he rarely plays sober always gives 65%.

....... why are so many of our supporters so vindictive towards certain players ??? - is it really necessary ???

Taylor, for whatever reason didn't fit MM's bill (maybe because of his attacking flair) - think about it... !!
- he has therefore moved on.

Good Luck to him, and Chesterfield - hope it works out for both if it happens.

Wallingford boy - I was just picking up on the comments about McShane being linked with Reading further down Phil's piece. The Pog reference was down to the club now being very nervous to commit to big salaries after blowing so much money on him.

Apologies for not replying sooner. I must admit that when I logged on I wondered why I added what seemed to be a non sequitur, but I remember Reading fans last season banging on about the club being very cautious over spending.

Taylor also must have had too much attacking flair for Rotherham and Blackburn as well then blueboy.
Surprised Arsenal not wanting him.

PJH ........... you're obviously one of the people who believe MM is the messiah of all things Football - just don't expect everyone (including myself) to agree with you.

Everyone has their own understanding of the game - some haven't a clue about the game they watch, but still receive the Season Ticket thro' the post, year after year, or click the turnstile each week.

Happy Days.

If it is accepted that Taylor is too good a footballer to play for MM's team you would think that a "good" team would be pleased to take him-unless there is a flaw in his character which probably explains why he has trouble settling anywhere.

I do think MM knows far more about football than either you or me,blueboy and I am very happy that he is the manager of "my" club.

It would (I suppose) be nice to spend time watching a game being educated on the finer points by you but on reflection,I think I will base my thoughts on the 55 years or so that I have spent supporting ITFC.

PJH .......... '55 years, or so'....... now why does that surprise me ?? - having just about equalled that myself.

I do not deny that Taylor may have 'a flaw' in his character - fact remains that he has / and is too much of a flair player for MM anyway.

My point is - why do people (like yourself) have to be so vindictive towards him ? - just because he is not to your messiah's taste.

Tell it's close season and little news, some people need to put their handbags away and go on holiday to freshen up.

Have a nice summer everyone and be kind to each other, play nicely, that kind of thing, you get my drift, after all (I think) we all support the same team!!

Morning blueboy.I think algarvefan is right,in fact I am going on holiday tomorrow.
Have a nice summer, although it is quite possible that we will disagree again some time before next season starts.

How is being of the opinion that Taylor is crap vindictive? Bluebottle you assert the crapness of our manager on a regular basis so how is that not vindictive? Such comments would be easier to take if you didn't but very black pot.

He might have flair, but that doesn't make him a good player. He couldn't get in our team (I know you think he wasn't given a chance but did it ever occur to you he didn't deserve one?) He was crap at PBorough on loan, he was crap at Rotherham on loan, as many a miller said, flatters to deceive because of his awkward running style, ended up bench warming, crap at " big" Blackburn where he ended up bench warming and couldn't win a contract. So given he has done nothing at all those clubs and given he was only signed on the basis of one semi good season at Peterborough, where he was merely supposed to be a sweeter in them selling us George Boyd in the first play I rather feel Nick's opinion has been bourne out.

So are MM, Steve Evans and Gary Bowyer- 3 experienced football coaches/managers all wrong. Or is Blueboy wrong?

Chesterfield are interested though and they're good so I'm off to tell Mick, Steve and Gary they know f all.
