Burley Praises Fair Play
Burley Praises Fair Play

George Burley has praised his players for their excellent behaviour this season which may give Town their best chance of a second season of European qualification.

John McGreal's suspension for the match against Southampton on Saturday is Town's first of the season. The Blues only red card was the one shown to Matteo Sereni at Leicester which was subsequently overturned by referee Barry Knight.

Burley said of McGreal's ban: "It's our first suspension of the season, I don't think there are many other clubs that have gone so long without getting anyone banned. Of course it's disappointing that we'll miss John, but I think that in general our discipline has again been excellent."

Referring perhaps to the mult-suspensioned Arsenal, Burley added: "You hear other clubs complaining about missing players through suspension, but at the end of the day players have to show discipline and all credit to ours, they have been excellent all year. They've always played in the right manner, even when things weren't going for them."

Town are currently fourth in Fair Play League behind Manchester United, Liverpool and Fulham. With the majority of those sides likely to qualify for Europe Town could be the Premiership side with a chance of going into Europe through the Fair Play League.

There is one European place given to the best behaving League in Europe with another two places going to Leagues drawn from a hat. Either the club finishing top, or nearest to top and not already qualified for Europe, of those Leagues will gain those European places.
