Norwegian Blues in Tournament Action
Saturday, 6th Jun 2015 10:15

Three teams representing Town are taking part in the annual Supporters Cup in Oslo today.

The tournament, which has been run by the Supporterunionen for Britisk Fotball for more than 20 years, is a six-a-side competition involving 40 teams made up of more than 1,000 Norwegian supporters of British clubs.

The Ipswich Town Supporters Club of Norway are entering three teams, two senior and one junior (10-13 years of age), with some English fans - including one or two TWTD forum regulars - having made the trip to join them.

The Blues teams also have a smattering of star quality with former Rosenborg midfielder and diehard Town fan Ronny Støbakk, who played in Champions League for the Trondheim-based club, playing for one of the sides.

Patrick Ramsøy, who is in goal for Ipswich Town 1, was the back-up keeper to current Town third-choice Michael Crowe - who took part in the Supporters Cup as an outfield player in 2013 - when he was with his previous club IK Start.

Former Scotland skipper Colin Hendry will also be there and will play in a team made up of Norwegian TV pundits including ex-Tottenham keeper Erik Thorstvedt, one-time Southampton defender Claus Lundekvam and former West Ham midfielder Trevor Morley, who ended his playing career in Norway and stayed on.

In the group stage of the senior competition Ipswich Town 1 face Burnley, Manchester City and Chelsea 3, while Ipswich Town 2 take on Derby County, Nottingham Forest and Arsenal 2.

You can follow the matches through RefSports.com, while NordicBet are even taking bets on the competition. Ipswich Town 1 beat Burnley 2-0 in their opening match (above), while Ipswich Town 2 lost 1-0 to the Rams in their first game.

Later, all the Town fans will meet up for a barbecue, quiz and evening out in Oslo.

Update from Oslo: Both teams got through the group stages and met in the round of 16 where Town 1 and Town 2 met, Town 1 winning 5-2. They went on to lose 3-1 to Liverpool in the quarter-final.
