Town Visit Brentford on Opening Day
Wednesday, 17th Jun 2015 09:00

Town will begin their 2015/16 Championship campaign with an away game at Brentford, who like the Blues reached the play-off semi-finals in May after finishing fifth, one place ahead of Mick McCarthy’s men on goal difference.

The 2014/15 Boxing Day visit to Griffin Park - Town’s first in the league since 1957 - was one of the season’s most memorable away trips with the Blues running out 4-2 victors.

Following that Saturday 8th August opener against the Bees, now managed by Dutchman Marinus Dijkhuizen, Town have three home games in a week with Stevenage at Portman Road in midweek in the Capital One Cup, probably on the Tuesday, before Sheffield Wednesday make the trip to Suffolk on the following Saturday and Burnley on Tuesday 18th August.

The Blues make the long trip to newly-promoted Preston North End four days later with a home game against Brighton completing the first month of the season.

After an international break September starts with matches at Reading and Leeds - the trip to Elland Road is once again in midweek - before Birmingham and League One champions Bristol City are at Portman Road.

The end-of-season run-in sees the Blues visit Wolves on Saturday 2nd April before back-to-back home matches against Charlton and Brentford, the return visit to Sheffield Wednesday, Fulham at Portman Road, an away game at Middlesbrough, the MK Dons’ first ever visit to Town and finally, on Saturday 7th May, a potentially huge game at Derby County, which has already been moved to a 12.30pm kick-off along with all the other final day matches.

At Christmas, the Rams visit Portman Road on Saturday 19th December before QPR make the trip to Suffolk on Boxing Day. Two days later, the Blues visit Brighton and Hove Albion.

There’s no New Year’s Day game but Town will make the long trip to recently relegated Burnley on Saturday 2nd January. Easter falls during a FIFA international break and therefore there are no Championship fixtures over that weekend.

In addition to Leeds, the Blues also face lengthy midweek trips to Hull City on Tuesday 20th October and Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday 8th March, a game which will kick-off at 8pm. Closer to home, Town’s visit to Fulham is on Tuesday 15th December.

As ever, all fixtures are subject to change. You can find the full list here.

I'm more worried about the final run in that is a very very tough one

Bit early to call the Derby game "huge". There's a bit of work for both teams to do before then.

I will have to stand at Brentford this time,I think the seat I had on boxing day was the most cramped that I have ever been at a football match.
Season will soon be with us.

Quite a good start imo. Brentford are my favourites for relegation this year, so a good chance at 3 points from first away game of season.

Sorry to state the obvious.....

The first few games will judge how we've handled the recovery from the disappointment and also the strength of coaching and desire of players shown in our vital pre-season work.

The run in will ask us "do you believe you are good enough" and I look forward to the positive answer.

In between the two we have to find what we lacked last year.... Consistency.

We can do it this year. Of that I have NO DOUBT.
but whether we will or not.... That's what a league campaign is designed to show!!!!

Good to hear that we are looking to strengthen our attaching midfield options.... Need to find players who Mick will trust and so actually pick.

This could be a very positive season indeed!!!!!!

COYB!

Bit harsh Raymond I say!

We were consistently excellent until January, then consistently bad until about march and then consistently just doing enough for the remainder of the season! Haha.

I honestly think this league is going to be one of the most difficult yet! I wouldn't read anything into the opening games or run in. In true town fashion we'll comfortably beat Brentford, Wednesday and Burnley and lose 1-0 to Preston.

Anyway else get a sudden dose of regret when you look down the table and note the missing fixture with our "friends" up the road?

A reasonable start. Brentford tough but plenty of home games to put points on the board. A good time to play Burnley. Now we know the fixtures, the hard work begins. After releasing nearly a third of our very small first team squad, we need to start signing players. Re-signing released players would mean our recruitment failed. Time to add quality and book that squad up now.

Everyone is going on about getting new players let look at a couple of points.

1/ The likes of QPR are the only ones going mad mainly like Hull and Burnley will lose a lot of players to reduce the wage bill, But QPR are getting them now as if they wait they might have a big problem if they lose their legal action and cant buy anyone.

2/ You look at the teams from last year Wolves will lose at least 2 or 3, Derby Ince wont be back and could lose some to Newcastle, Boro wont get bamford back and who else have they, Bolton lose No.1 keeper and Fulham still have a fair bit of work.

3/ Also If you look at our game last season against Fulham they were bankers to win and they lost like a lot of clubs coming down its a big culture shock and big stars don't really work as they don't want to play outside the top flight.

4/ We have 3 or 4 players from last year who didn't play the irish lads we all know about and wish are really new players to us in a way.

So Id rather wait to keep hold of them we need and get the right ones in you rush building a side with a lot of signings it don't work Blackpool is a perfect example.

Topguy - but we have lost loads of players from a very small squad. A squad which couldn't name of full quota of subs last season and at one point had just two available strikers. The other teams you mention gave bigger squads. It's clear we lack quality and goals in midfield. It's essential we sign many new players.

Bet Brentford ends up as a Sky game - will be very annoying as an away-day at Brentford on a Saturday afternoon in August has huge appeal.

I know it's sounds a bit weird but genuinely think the loser of this game will struggle the whole season and maybe even get relegated, could be a brighton/Wigan story, think without warburton and the buzz off newly promoted, Brentford could be in trouble, and a team from the play offs never bounces back

Agreed im not saying we don't need to sign MM does, ME does everyone does, but look at the teams around us they have lost something we haven't 1st team core players, eg, derby are going to lose out ince and others prob to Newcastle, boro wont get bamford bk, Fulham lost a lot and replaced with new players, the core of our team is the main stay with 2 or 3 players who never played last season and a spare forward 2 in midfield and at least a RB but rush into it and that could affect everything best to go easy and not be desperate just to sign players that's what blackpool ended up doing you know what happened there.
