Young Full-Backs Make Ireland Trip
Monday, 6th Jul 2015 18:06

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that young full-backs Josh Emmanuel and Myles Kenlock have travelled with the first-team squad to Ireland for this week’s training camp at the Carton House Hotel in Co Kildare.

Speaking last Tuesday, McCarthy said right-back Emmanuel (above), 17, and Kenlock, an 18-year-old left-back or centre-half, could make the trip if the scholars impressed him during the first week of pre-season at Playford Road.

“We’ve had a good week’s training and the lads have all come back in remarkable shape, which is credit to them all," the Blues boss told the official Town website.

"It’s been good to get back at it and it’s been good to get back in with the lads and the dressing room banter.

“We will go out to Ireland for a week and continue the hard work. It’s a good opportunity for the new lads and some of the younger boys to get integrated too.

“We’re taking Josh Emmanuel and Myles Kenlock with us. They’ve impressed me and they will join us out in Ireland.

“Then there’s the likes of Alex Henshall, who’s come back with a great attitude, Dylan Connolly and Ainsley Maitland-Niles for us to have a good look at.”

Also making the trip to Ireland are 17-year-old midfielder Adam McDonnell and 20-year-old centre-half Josh Yorwerth, who recently joined the Blues after leaving Cardiff.

The Blues open their pre-season friendly programme with a game against Connolly and McDonnell’s former club Shelbourne at Tolka Park on Saturday (KO 3pm). Admission will be €10 for adults and €5 students, OAPs and children. The club bar opens at 1pm.

Assume he's made the trip as well, he's a second-year pro and nearly 20 now so probably more of a surprise if he didn't go.

No surprise. We have only four senior defenders at the club. Looks like we are going to rely on youth despite the Mings sale. IN fact, none of that money spent yet. Just loans, a permanent player and a chap who hasn't played a championship game. I find it remarkable that people think we are stronger than last season. Deficit of nine squad players. I'm for youth, but I thought the Mings money would very reinvested? Clearly not.

Jas, take a few deep breaths mate, there's two months of the window to go! It'll all be ok.

Its only been 10 days since Mings left, and already some people are moaning that we haven't spent anything yet, we've got 33 days till the Brentford game on August 8th, I'm sure MM will bring I what we need before the season starts. Have some patience FFS!

Can understand your concern Jas but I am sure MM will bring more senior players in if not in the short term then when the Premiership Clubs have announced their squads for next season usually in early September. We do definitely need more players, with in my opinion 3 positions - goalkeeper although not the number one priority, a right back and a midfield player who scores goals where we were badly lacking in that department last season. Love Bru, Hyam, Skuse and Bishop but will they get us the goals required - I am not so sure they will. As they say in Mick we trust

I know Josh personally lives just round the corner from me & is probably as technically gifted as anyone at the club..often see him up the sports centre in the evening just kicking the ball round like an excited 10 year old.not even the best player in his family.that accolade goes to his brother who plays for Witham in the ryan league !! Believe me a star in the making !!

I'm far more excited to see what these lads and Connelly, McDonnell, benyu, Clarke, henshall, Stewart, even dozzell over the next few years than any signings. As well as maitland-Niles and Fraser, who have been brought in to add goals this year.

Can't see why you got minuses. What you've said needs to be said. We are 9 players down on last season, therefore that's why the youngsters are all going in. If they are ready (having watched a few of them in action I would say not), then that's a Master Strokr from MM and TC. Matt Clarke looked good enough last year and McDonnell looked sensational in training. McQueen and Howells looked pretty good at times but apart from that....

The main reason we came 6th last season was lack of players. When we picked up injuries (around November/December) we started to struggle as we didn't have good quality players coming in. I hope we do intend to bring in some players before the start of the season. The sooner the better as every player needs time to gel in their new set up. Not easy moving house, meeting new team mates etc then playing 6/7 days later. Really adds to the pressure on them if we leave it late, especially if they are not used to our tactics.

There really is a space for a young right-back to step up and make that position his own. Pre-season is the time to shine - it worked for Teddy Bishop, now lets see another youngster grab the bull by the horns and say 'Mick, you have to pick me'.

Some crazy comments on here. Greg Halford was out there and available on a free and went to Rotherham ! So, MM not looking for another jobbing player at this point when he has not re-assessed the players he has.....including the younger lads.

Let them have their trip, maybe a game or 2, then MM will know if and where to spend any money.

Come on guys, in MM/ME we trust.....at least we should do by now !
