Patterson on Target as New Zealand Close in On Olympic Place
Friday, 10th Jul 2015 08:29

Academy scholar Monty Patterson netted his third goal in three games as New Zealand’s U23s beat Vanuatu 2-0 in the semi-finals of the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea this morning.

The Blues midfielder or striker netted the opening goal two minutes after the break having previously scored in the group games against the Solomon Islands and the hosts before being rested for the match against New Caledonia.

New Zealand’s U23s now face Fiji in Sunday’s final with Oceania’s place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games the prize.

Blues centre-half Tommy Smith previously represented New Zealand at the 2012 London Olympics.

This guy is a real prospect for the future, keep on the score-sheet and he'll catch someones eye. Lets hold onto him and make him a player that we need. I'm excited about him

Got to be worth giving a cup run - young, eye for goal...start as a sub to keep Sears fresh? Love to see him do it against better opposition for Town. Well done, Monty!

Decent result considering Vanuatu scored 46 in their previous game!

Looks like a natural goalscorer, just like Jordan Rhodes and look what happened to him!Must consider opposition though;would he score against Germany Holland or France?
