McCarthy: Donaldson? Where Would I Play Him?
Saturday, 11th Jul 2015 18:51

Town boss Mick McCarthy wouldn’t directly comment on reports that he has or is planning to make an offer for Birmingham striker Clayton Donaldson but pondered aloud where he would play him given the strikers he already has at his disposal.

“You wouldn’t expect me to comment on that whether I have or I haven’t,” McCarthy said after Town’s win at Shelbourne.

“But if you consider that for one moment when I’ve got Daryl Murphy, David McGoldrick, Freddie Sears and Brett Pitman, I just wonder where the hell I’d go and play him.”

Quizzed on whether he will look to add another central midfielder as cover for Luke Hyam while he is out injured, he added: “I’ve got four good ‘uns out there, haven’t I, by the looks of it. Probably more than four good ‘uns. We’ll see.”

Does he expect to have any new signings in his squad before the Blues take on Fortuna Dusseldorf next Friday? “Doubtful.”

McCarthy confirmed that winger Cameron Stewart, who played for the U21s at Leiston this afternoon, can leave: “He’s available."

Nothing given here. But what if McGoldrick and/or Murphy is so?

to be fair micks "doubtful" can mean that we have a imminant signing. have to agree with mick, donaldson would be a good replacement if murphy/mcgoldrick left, but not needed really. still think mick has a bit more work to do in the transfer window imo...

How about right back or central midfield MM. Lol.
Please get these positions sorted, I don't want to see us lose out on automatic promotion again next season.

Another squad player available. To add to the 13 leaving from last season. Just four in. Stronger? Not for me I'm afraid. Expecting the Mings money to be reinvested + the wages saved from the 13 leaving. So far, just two permanent signings and two loans. That probably covers the wages from those leaving. Now for the Mings money. Milne said it would get reinvested. He wouldn't lie? Surely?

Are McCarthy and Milne going to tell us and therefore all the Agents how much we have to spend on fees and salary? Nope! Only if they want to blow more than they want to. Leave them to it and when it's time to announce a signing, they will announce it. In the meanwhile concentrate on preparing yourselves for supporting the team through another tough season like the last. Don't assume the worst or the best with every rumour, newspaper story or half baked theory about the finances of the club.

If we were half the businessman that our Owner is we would all be rich and owning our own club. Those spending fortunes do not always buy glory .... Leeds, QPR etc.

Not good enough for a promotion chasing side.

Jas0999 - for crying out loud mate, of the 13 players who have left, who were actual proper starters? Mings. Anderson maybe. McCarthy is trimming down the squad, making it lean and mean. We've got players already in the squad who will fill the gaps, plus a couple of signings in the pipeline - mark my words. You got 4 down votes for a reason there pal...

Paulblue62 - what's not good enough for a promotion chasing side? Not signing Clayton Donaldson? I guess Birmingham'll win the league then...

Don't we all want to see more Teddy Bishops i.e. youth team players make the grade, people are upset when we don't make signings but Mick has said how impressed he's been with the likes of Emmanuel, Kenlock, Hammond and Benyu - lets hope we have some talented kids coming through and we don't need signings!!

karls dad. hull via bungled leeds move. 3 year contract, he looked good before his injury. But clearly didn't come back with right fitness or approach.

Cameron Stewart; seemed to have all the talent to succeed, but missing something else. What a shame.

Hope he finds the right attitude, whether here or elsewhere...

I know Stewart didn't cost us anything but I'll bet he's on decent money. With our purse-strings being as tight as they are we need rid ASAP if MM's not going to play him.

Apologies if this has been posted already but I just watched this. He seems a powerhouse, and can make himself a nuisance in the box often getting in the right place at the right time.
